Translation
To produce adequate translations of complex texts to a professional standard.
Written Composition

To study procedures for dealing with expository, argumentative and instructional texts, including specific problems of translating (metaphor,oblique reference, etc).

To summarise complex texts for particular purposes.

To enable students to produce adequate translations in the FL of complex English texts and summaries/reports to a professional standard.

To provide specific procedures for handling specific problems of translating from English into the foreign language

To enable students to consolidate and develop a variety of skills involved in the production of texts in the FL

To enable students to express in the written

16. Syllabus
Translation
Study of complex texts in the FL drawn from a range of sources and fields relating to the Year 4 topic syllabus. Exercises involve discussion of various
problematic areas/themes which may arise in translating; long translations; abstracting. Regular written submissions form an integral part of the course.
Written Composition
Workshops (translating, revising, summarising) relating to production of target texts in the FL working from English source texts. Following the introduction
of methodologies (e.g. for abstract/summary/report writing) and strategies (e.g. for solving specific problems of translating from English into the FL), students
and exchange students carry out related exercises within groups or pairs. There is preparation and follow-up work to complete outside class and regular written
tasks are an integral part of the course.
Spoken
Workshops involving a variety of oral activities (argumentation, presentation, discussion) based on topics in the field of international; political and economic
affairs. Students are expected to carry out necessary preparatory research for classes using a variety of written, audio and video sources.
