Paws for… Haude News October 2014 USE OF WIRELESS DEVICES WHILE OPERATING A MOTOR VEHICLE The Texas Transportation Code currently prohibits the use of a wireless communication device while operating a vehicle within a school crossing zone. The Legislature has added a new offense to the Transportation Code that prohibits the use of a wireless communication device while operating a motor vehicle on any school property with a crossing zone, and while the reduced speed limit is in effect, unless the vehicle is stopped or the driver is using a hands-free device, or there is a specified emergency. This offense was added to address the problem of individuals using wireless devices while driving through school parking lots or driving lanes. In summary, this new legislation permits Klein ISD police officers to stop and cite individuals operating a motor vehicle on a school parking lot provided the vehicle is in motion at the time of the offense. This provision is in addition to the existing law enabling officers to cite drivers within a school crossing zone. SCHOOL PORTRAITS Get ready for Picture Day, Friday, October 17. The following is offered as general guidelines for teachers to follow in preparing assignments for students who have been or expect to be absent from classes for three or more consecutive days: 1. Upon request from a parent, make-up or advance assignments will be prepared for students who have been absent for at least three consecutive days and expect to be out longer due to illness. 2. Teachers are not required to provide advance assignments for students who expect to be absent for any reason other than illness. 3. The above guidelines may be waived when, in the opinion of the school principal, extenuating circumstances exist. ATTENDANCE School is an important aspect of your child’s life. To learn to be successful in school, they need to be in school every day. Being at school on time, every day is a habit that needs to be cultivated early in life. Encourage your children to develop good attendance habits. If it is necessary for your child to be absent, please call the office at 832-484-5600 before 9:45 a.m. and tell us his/her name, grade, teacher, and explanation for absence. It will still be necessary to send a written excuse upon your child’s return to school. SAVE THE DATE! The Klein Classic Golf Tournament and Silent Auction will be held on Tuesday, October 14th at the Gleannloch Pines Golf Club. If you would like more information or would like to register online, please visit our Klein website at www.kleinisd.net/Departments/Foundations/Education Foundation/13th Annual Classic Golf Tournament. VOLUNTEER PROGRAM We love Haude volunteers! Thanks to all of you who returned your volunteer sign-up forms or came to the volunteer coffee. We have had a great response but still need help in many areas. Moms, Dads, grandparents and community members all make excellent volunteers. Don’t miss out on this rewarding experience. We need your helping hands! If you were not able to come to the coffee or have not signed up and would like to, please contact Kelly Alexander at blakejr03@yahoo.com or Summer Perkins at Summer@nhh-realty.com. 3 HAUDE WEBSITE The Haude web page is linked to the KISD district home page. We strongly feel that this is a wonderful communication and informational tool for our parents. Our greatest appreciation is extended to Christine Matula, Haude Webmaster, for keeping the website updated. If you have questions or would like us to add information, please notify Mrs. Matula. We value your input. The web address is www.kleinisd.net/Campuses/Elementary Schools/Haude. Did you know you can visit your child’s teacher’s website by clicking on the Teacher link? Choose the grade level and click on the teacher’s name. The monthly Haude newsletter is online. V-SOFT CHECK-IN SYSTEM This year we are continuing to use the V-Soft system. When visitors, volunteers or contractors check-in, or parents come to pick up students, they will be asked to present a valid state-issued ID for entering into the system. The system has the ability to provide alerts on people who may jeopardize the safety of our campus. Thank you for helping keep our school safe! BEING PREPARED Please make sure your child brings all needed school items (books, lunch, Tuesday folder, recorders, homework, etc.) with them each morning. This is all part of being prepared for “their work” as a student plus instructional time is not interrupted. We will be delivering or calling into classrooms twice a day for any items dropped off in the morning by parents. Times will be at 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. We appreciate your support for this procedure. MORNING CARPOOL LINE Thank you for your help with our morning carpool line. When we have cars backed up on Louetta it creates a safety issue. In order to keep the line flowing, we need to have each child to exit the car when the carpool line stops. If you are closest to the cafeteria, your child will enter through the cafeteria doors. If you are closest to the front of the school, your child will enter through the front doors. This will allow the line to keep flowing. If you are going to walk students into the school, park in the parking lot by the cafeteria. Cars backing out in the front parking lot slow down the drop-off traffic. DISMISSAL During afternoon dismissal, please do not block the entrance to All State Leather. This business supports the school throughout the year by allowing us to use their parking lot for special Haude events. Also, please do not park in the driveways of residents in the Middle Creek subdivision as this causes the residents to be blocked. Thanks for your help! SPIRIT DAYS Remember that every Friday is spirit day at Haude! Show your Jaguar spirit by wearing a Haude T-shirt. The school store is open on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 7:50 – 8:15, and is located in the cafeteria on the stage. 4 SOCIAL SKILLS Oct. 6 - 10 Accepting “No” for an Answer 1. We ask parents to reinforce to their children the importance of remembering everything they need for assignments before leaving the classroom at the end of the day. If your child forgets their homework, folder or book, etc. at school and you bring them back to school to pick it up after 3:30 p.m., you will need to come into the building with your child and sign in before going into the classroom with your child to the needed items. Due to security reasons, the doors at Haude will be locked at 4:00 p.m. every day. Parents or students will not be allowed to enter the building to get books or homework after 4:00 p.m. Thank you for following this procedure.
