Dear Parents,
We are looking forward to welcoming your child to our new junior infants on Monday 31st August. Here are just a
few pointers which hopefully will explain our school routine to you.
Arrival on First Morning:
School commences for all classes at 8.50am. You can bring your child directly to the classroom door where your
child’s class teacher will be waiting to greet you. If your child is nervous and you want to delay your arrival until 9
o’clock when the volume of children arriving to other classes has subsided, then of course that’s fine.
You are welcome to take your child into the classroom and to take a few photographs for the family album!!! I
encourage you not to delay too long in the classroom. It can become very crowded with children,
parents/grandparents gathering around. Settle your child and go. Tell your child who will be collecting him/her at 12
noon.
Collection of Pupils
Your child will go home at 12 noon for the first two weeks only.As and from Monday 14th September our junior
infant classes will go home at 1.30pm.
When collecting your child, please wait outside your child’s classroom door.The class teacher will open the door at
12 noon. As each parent/child minder calls out his/her child’s name, the class teacher will release the child to that
person. If on any occasion there is a change in collection arrangements it is essential to let the class teacher know
as your child will only be released to the designated person collecting your child.
School Expenses
You have already received personalised envelopes to facilitate the payment of school expenses. As you can
appreciate the Junior Infant teachers will be very busy on the first few mornings, meeting parents and children and
helping some children to settle. Please do not hand the envelopes to the class teachers at this time!!! Kindly drop
the envelopes into Elaine and Sharon in our school office.
Extra-Curricular Activities
You will receive details of after school activities in a separate e-mail. If your child wishes to enrol, please contact the
class tutor directly. Please be mindful that some of these activities may start in the week commencing Monday 7th
September. During this week your child will finish school at 12 noon so you will have to bring him/her back to school
at 1.30pm for their after school class. From the following week the class tutor will collect your child directly from the
classroom at 1.30pm and take him/her to the hall.
Preparing your Child
Fit on the school uniform this week. Make sure your child can put on and take off his/her coat. Let your child practise
opening and closing their schoolbag and their lunch box. Remember we encourage healthy lunches. We donot allow
yoghurts, crisps or chocolate.Please give your child a small manageable lunch.
Speak of school in positive terms. It is a big step for your child and indeed for you as parents. Don’t convey any
apprehension to your child. It is understandable that one or two children may be a little unsettled at first but from
years of experience we know they soon settle and there is no need for parents to be concerned.
If for any reason your child is not taking up their place in Junior Infants please contact me
immediately.

“Tea and Tissues Morning”
Our Parents’ Association will host a “Tea and Tissues” morning in our school hall beside the main reception. When
you drop off your child to the Junior Infants’ classroom please pop over for a quick “cuppa” and some nice treats. We
hope we won’t need too many tissues!!
Parents/Grandparents/Childminders all welcome.
Relax and get to know other parents in an informal setting.
