Students, former students, parents, colleagues, administrators, or members of the general public
may nominate teachers as Career Center Teacher of the Year. After nominations have been
submitted, teachers will have the opportunity to vote for Career Center TOY by being presented
with nominees and selected segments of the nomination materials.
THE NOMINATION PROCESS
Nomination forms are available on the school website, in the main office, and in the TAC reps
classroom, namely Leigh Munley. All nomination forms must be returned to Ms. Munley no
later than Friday, December 13, 2013 for consideration. The nominator must secure permission
of the nominee to enter his/her name for consideration. While there are no local eligibility
requirements for school-level TOY's as long as they are in a teacher paid role (teacher, guidance
counselor, PRT, curriculum coordinator, etc), in order to compete for the district level TOY, it is
required that they meet state eligibility rules so that our district TOY will be eligible to go on to
regional and state level competition. District level rules mandate that to be eligible for selection
as a Teacher of the Year, a person must hold a Standard Professional 2 license (not a Beginning
Teacher - formerly called ILT's) , be employed full time and spend at least 70% of his or her time
in direct instruction of North Carolina public school. If Career Center TOY fails to meet these
requirements, the runner-up will be chosen to represent Career Center on a district level.
Additionally, the teacher should possess and demonstrate consistently:
The ability to create a love of learning in students of all abilities and
backgrounds.
High expectations for all students.
A strong sense of values, integrity and professional ethics.
The ability to learn and experiment with new ideas in order to expand their
professional knowledge base.
Strong human relations/strong cooperative skills with students, parents,
colleagues, administration, and the Clarkston community.
Knowledge of subject and curriculum content, of student growth and
development, of instruction and assessment.
Clear understanding of their beliefs and practices.
Strong communication skills.
Energy, enthusiasm, a positive attitude, & dependability
Commitment to community service
Career Center TOY will be announced by the end of day, December 20th.
