PROPOSED STANDING COMMITTEES
Family and Community Engagement (F.A.C.E.)
The F.A.C.E. Committee will be headed by two co-F.A.C.E. Liaisons, who will serve as
point persons to the district’s F.A.C.E. Department. The creation of a standing committee
formalizes work that the PTO has undertaken for several years. The mission of the
F.A.C.E. Committee is to engage parents, especially those who have not traditionally
been involved in school activities, to foster a more welcoming and inclusive environment
for all families.
The activities that fall under the purview of the F.A.C.E. Committee include: attending
district F.A.C.E. Team meetings, planning and facilitating an annual “world café”-style
PTO meeting, tabling at events (such as parent/teacher conferences and City
Tournament) to reach more families, and phonebanking to personally invite parents to
attend PTO meetings.

Teacher Appreciation
The Teacher Appreciation committee will be responsible for leading the three formal
teacher appreciation events (October lunch, May breakfast, and end-of-year cookout) and
planning the “strategic hits of kindness” that we’ve recently begun, including a beginningof-the-year welcome gift and token gifts for Valentine’s Day and Teacher Appreciation
Week. The purpose of the Teacher Appreciation Committee is to increase teacher
involvement in the PTO and ensure teachers know that they are appreciated by SHS
parents.
Nominee for the Teacher Appreciation Chair for 2015-2016: Tiffani Shekleton
Communications
The Communications committee will support the President and Secretary in drafting
materials for communicating with parents, such as emails, newsletters, and flyers. The
Chair will manage the Fall alumni fundraising newsletter, update the PTO’s Facebook
page and school website, and be able to use Mail Chimp, in coordination with the
President.
