NUTLEY HIGH SCHOOL PTO MEETING MINUTES Tuesday, May 12, 2015 Meeting was called to order at 7:39 pm by Tracy McGrath. Recording Secretary Report: Y.Wallace- A motion was made to accept the minutes from the March 19, 2015 meeting by S. Conte and K. St. Amant. Special Guest – Ashley Hamson, Program Director, C2 Education Center, Clifton, NJ came to present a $500 donation to our PTO as part of their 1 year anniversary celebration. She also talked about the new Spring 2016 SAT rollout and it’s alignment with the Common Core. Treasurer’s Report: S. Conte – In comparison to last year we are down $300 in donations from the Cup of Tea Fundraiser. PTO Balance as of May 12, 2015 is $8,076.22. Corresponding Secretary Report: K St. Amant – There has not been much activity. A flyer from C2 Education Center came in as well as a Devil’s fundraiser postcard. SEC sent in a letter of proposal for the PSAT/SAT which was forwarded to the Guidance Dept. Teachers Representative Report:_– There was no Teachers Representative available for this evenings meeting. President’s Report: T. McGrath – The staff appreciation luncheon went well the teachers were very appreciative and the students did a terrific job. Principal’s Report: Mr. Williams – On March 25th Key Club organized our annual blood drive in the small gym. 130 Juniors and Seniors donated 113 units of blood, which saved 339 lives. We thank all the brave heroes who donated their blood! The Junior Formal was held off campus and went well. The Senior Prom for 2016 is the last contracted year at the Birchwood Manor. The class advisors will look into changing it to another location after 2016. The World language induction was held on April 7th. Career night on April 9th went well. Sprit week and the decathlon took place April 20 -24, all went well, moving the decathlon later in the year will be considered. The music department had so much going on and everyone enjoyed Café Night. Over all everything went well with PARCC testing an added benefit is that we acquired and are getting additional technology (Chromebooks). Upcoming events as per the May calendar, AP testing, Relay for Life, National Honor Society induction, Choir concert, Student Government day. Spring sports are doing well, Girls track, Baseball, Softball, Lacrosse. BOE Report: D Carnicella: Ken Reilly has resigned due to medical concerns. Applications are currently being accepted for a fill-in replacement. Improvements for the schools will be made throughout the summer. The summer projects include: Secure entrance to high school on New Street Space being utilized at middle school for registration Addition of a handicap ramp and a more secure entrance at Spring Garden School Enhancing the handicap entrance at Lincoln School Paving at Yantacaw Ongoing Business PTO Scholarships – 40 applicants applied, four were chosen. Project Graduation: We need to motivate more students, so far only 25 students have signed up. New Business Staff Appreciation Luncheon -. The staff appreciation luncheon went well the teachers were very appreciative and the students did a terrific job. Graduation Reception – Volunteers have come forward, they need to be here by 3:00 – 3:30 pm.
