Placer Academy Line of Scrimmage! by Mrs. Godtland April 27, 2015 Teamwork: "Remember teamwork begins by building trust. And the only way to do that is to overcome our need for invulnerability." Town Hall Meeting: Please join us for our Town Hall Meeting on Tuesday, April 28th at 6:30 pm. The meeting will be held at 9001 Foothills Blvd., Suite #130-140, Roseville. This is a great opportunity to gather pertinent information and share your thoughts and goals for our school. We encourage all parents to attend. Town Hall Agenda: Welcome General Session Successes LCAP Survey Trends Facility Update Breakout Sessions Upper Academy Update Academic Rigor Communications Closing Yearbooks: The yearbook deadline was extended. But Friday, May 1st is your last chance to order the 20142015 yearbook. Order forms are available in the office. Yearbooks are $25. Checks should be made payable to HRPA PTO. The Joy of Science: Third graders put on their gloves and got familiar with eyeball anatomy last Thursday. Dissecting cow eyes is always the highlight of third grade science. Students made many discoveries and connections during the lab. Here is what some of them had to say. Emma: "I saw the blind spot and it was really cool." Hayden: "As we were clearing out the back we saw this thing attached to the eye. It was the optic nerve!" Noah: "I cut out the cornea and destroyed the lens!" Taylor: "I thought it was really gross, but also cool." Summer Reading Challenge: Summer vacation is just around the corner! A great way to keep in touch with school friends and maintain reading skills is have your child join a summer book club. Harvest Ridge Placer Academy PTO wants to help. With the use of funds raised by our All for Books campaign and the Spring Book Fair, HRPA PTO will purchase the first book for your child’s summer book club. However, we need your help too! Please consider volunteering to coordinate a summer book club. It can be as easy as setting up a meeting date once a month at a local park or you can go all out and put together meeting dates every week with food and crafts planned around the theme of the book. If you are interested, please contact Stephanie Rogers atbookfair@harvestridgeschool.org. DVD Collection Project: My Name is Sophia from Mrs. Fletcher’s fifth grade class and I am working on a Girl Scout project. I am collecting new and gently used children’s DVDs for the Child Life Program at Sutter Children’s Hospital. There is a collection box in the lobby that will be there through April 28th where DVD donations can be dropped off. The DVD’s should be rated G or PG (for very young up to age 18). Sorry they cannot accept any VHS. Thank You. Teacher Appreciation Week: Teacher Appreciation Week is May 4-7and we'd like to invite all students and parents to show extra gratitude to our amazing teachers and staff! Here are our daily themes if you choose to join in. Just bring items to your teacher each day. These items do not need to be expensive and you can pick and choose which days you join in. There is a binder in the front office with a list of favorites for each teacher. This is not required (participation is optional). Monday - Bring a flower to your teacher Tuesday - Wear your teacher's favorite color Wednesday - Bring a school supply item (some favorites include colored sharpies, colored white board markers, post-its) or a book (new or used) for your class library Thursday - Surprise your teacher with something off her favorite list We have also planned food for the teachers each day during the week and will be sending out a school wide signup genius with items needed. There will also be an "Appreciation Station" Monday and Tuesday during lunch time for the students to handwrite notes to teachers and staff to express their appreciation. These will be distributed to all staff on Thursday. Let's show our incredible teachers and staff just how much we appreciate them!
