St. Jude Catholic School PTO Overview St. Jude Catholic School Mission Statement St. Jude Catholic School is a Christ-centered, student focused community, enriching the whole person, serving God’s kingdom, while fostering academic excellence. (see 2013-2014 Parent/Student Handbook page 2) St. Jude Catholic School PTO is a volunteer organization and our purpose is to: Function as a support group to the faculty and the school administration Foster a caring Christian community of parents Strengthen parental involvement in all school programs Promote advancement of a quality Catholic education Build a better understanding and create a common interest between parents and faculty through open and constant communication. (see SJCS PTO Bylaws Article II-Purpose) Accordingly, the PTO efforts shall be designed to support the school’s mission statement, but not seek to direct the Administration of the school. All decisions or recommendations of the PTO are subject to approval by the Principal and/or Pastor. Our Organizational Chart The SJCS PTO consists of all parents of students enrolled at St. Jude Catholic School in good standing being current in the payment of dues. The SJCS PTO Officers consist of President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. It is supported by various Committees with a Committee Chair and/or Co-Chair. Committee Chairpersons will be responsible for submitting general plans for the execution of their particular committee’s work prior to approval and implementation. (See Bylaws Article III-Membership, Article IV-Officers, Section 1, Article VII-Committees, Section III) Teacher Appreciation Committee – Meg Randall, Chair This committee plans, coordinates and executes events to recognize and show appreciation to the faculty and administration. Committee is responsible for Staff Monthly Birthday Treats, Conference Luncheons, Teacher Appreciation Week, Catholic Schools Week Teacher Luncheon and Pastor Appreciation. Family Fun Committee – Stephanie Ralph, Chair This committee coordinates efforts to build relationships within the SJCS community by providing fun family events. This committee is responsible for coordinating social activities including Trunk or Treat, Monster Mash Dance, Bingo Night, Advent Celebration, Kettle Ringing and End of Year Picnic. These events are free of charge or at minimal cost to the SJCS families. New Family Mentor – Catie Klocke, Chair This committee ensures that veteran families are paired with new SJCS families to welcome and assist the new student and their families with the transition to the new school community. Fundraising Committee Box Tops - Laurie Narhwold Market Day - Becky Byrd Scrip - Jill Lindsey Rummage Sale - Mary Rawson and Amy Dyke Book Fair – Kelly Hamilton The PTO runs various fundraising activities to provide funding to the school for needs not covered by the school’s budget. Room Parents This volunteer position ensure that the teachers receive assistance in the classroom as needed and plans fun classroom parties. Catholic Schools Week - PTO Executive Team and Teachers’ Appreciation Committee This committee coordinates activities for Catholic Schools Week with the teachers and the Principal with the exception of Teachers’ Appreciation Luncheon. Other Committees Annual Gala - Tom and Toni Waldschmidt Used Uniform Sale – Lindsey Zopel Christmas Gift Wrapping – Mary Rawson Picture Person – Martha Bognadowicz Yearbook – Heather Penne Running Club – Lindsey Zopel Parents in Prayer – Catie Klocke Little Flowers – Melissa Fassino (1st and 2nd Grade) Julie Stedwill and Lisa Nethery (3rd- 6th Grade) Athletics – Boys’ Basketball – David Rudolph Girls’ Basketball – Craig Dyke Cross Country – Julie Stedwill and Karen Flaherty Budget The budget committee shall be comprised of the Executive Council. Plans for budget shall begin in May. Proposed budgets submitted by the various committee chairpersons shall reflect approximate costs of items requested. The Principal must specifically approve all expenditures in excess of $100.00. Receipts for all purchases will be submitted to the Treasurer. (see Bylaws Article V- Finances, Section II, III, IV,V)
