This course may not be used to satisfy any degree program at LSCC. Attendance in the Learning Center is required. Students who pass ENC 0015 with a grade of “C” or higher must take ENC 0025 as the next course in the sequence or may bypass ENC 0025 if they meet the following requirements: 1. must first be recommended by the ENC 0015 instructor to attempt bypassing ENC 0025, and 2. must retake the college placement exam with a score high enough to be placed into ENC 1101, and 3. must achieve a satisfactory passing score on both parts of the state mandated College Prep English Test (CPET). Outcomes: To demonstrate analysis, evaluation, and application thinking skills by breaking down essays by rhetorical modes and taking a position on them, and then by producing those modes in paragraphs. Competencies: Read and analyze texts produced by others and write well-developed paragraphs with topic sentences and relevant supporting details Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) Assessed in this Course: (what the students take with them beyond this course) Outcomes: To demonstrate synthesis and application by applying learned grammatical and sentence structure rules as well as rhetorical modes of organization to writings. Competencies: Writing paragraphs with little to no grammar and sentence structure errors and writing with a variety of rhetorical modes in paragraphs. Outcomes: To effectively choose a subject, employ an appropriate organizational scheme, and write a paragraph which clearly communicates one topic sentence with relevant support and uses words which are appropriate to the audience and purpose. Competencies: Writing with a variety of rhetorical modes in paragraphs. Outcomes: To recognize the importance of planning and creating paragraphs in a timely manner to meet both a list of criteria and a deadline. Competencies: Use the writing process to follow through writing paragraphs in various rhetorical modes: choose an appropriate topic, formulate a valid topic sentences, outline details, draft the paragraph; revise; edit and 1 proofread the paragraph.
