SB1 (d) Students will explain the impact of water on life processes (i.e. osmosis, diffusion) What are the unique properties of water that make it essential to all living things? Activator How does the presence of substances dissolved in water affect the properties of water? How do hydrogen bonds in water make it a universal solvent? How do we tie it all together? Test How do we tie it all together? Teaching Strategies: Students will watch a video clip on what makes water polar and the characteristics that identify why it is the universal solvent why it is the best solvent. Students will use their iPads, textbooks, and notes to complete a GO on water’s polar characteristics. Students will begin working on a study guide/review packet on the properties of water, universal solvent, polarity, cohesion, adhesion, insulation and capillary action, and hydrogen bonds in water. Students will continue to complete a foldable identifying the properties of water: universal solvent, polarity, cohesion, adhesion and insulation. TEST Students will watch a video on the concepts of biology and their use in different fields of science. They will use the information found in the video to complete a worksheet. Summarizer 321 TOD: Why is water considered a universal solvent? Open questions and discussion Test Have a Safe Break! Essential Question
