Electrical Design Engineer Job Reference: LM People Job Code/Title: Location: Programme / Functional Group: LMUKA11138 E1444I / Electrical Engineer Stf Ampthill Ampthill - Vehicles Description of Business Environment: LM is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Electrical Design Engineer for the programmes within the Vehicles Business Area. The role is to develop, test and integrate electrical power and control systems designs through to qualification for ground based vehicles. You will be part of a team reviewing system specifications, writing and capturing product functional requirements, producing sytem models, performing analysis, simulation, design and testing of the platform power and control. Reporting to the Platform Electrical Architecture Technical Lead and Design Team Lead, the candidate will be expected to take responsibility for technical decisions of a particular part of the product design, documenting design decisions throughout development and will also need to work with minimal supervision. Further, communicating with internal functions, to ensure all views are gauged and understood before, during and after delivery of the detailed design. Specific Job Description: Reporting to the Design Team Lead, the candidate is expected to take responsibility for the design, development and support of control system solutions from concept to completion following a detailed development process. Provide guidance and governance to the team in the integration of the deliverables, supporting as necessary assembly and installation. Provide direction to the project team against specification requirements and further supporting design review activities. Define processes, specifications, and procedures that support the design and manufacture of the solutions. Provide direction to develop scope of work, metrics, schedules and budgets. Engage in the technical detail as an integral member of the team. Required Skills: The core competences and qualifications for the job are: Hardware electrical power and circuit protection design experience Demonstrable implementation experience of power and control strategies Electrical/Electronics design and experience of low voltage (DC) high current power distribution. Distributed control and Interface experience. Working at system level, with suppliers/customers both internal and external. Able to work at unit level, with ability to understand and develop detailed technical trades. Product Development Process awareness • Knowledge of hardware and bus protocols including: CAN, SSI, RS422, IBIS, Ethernet, 1553 Use and selection of motor technologies and drive solutions Knowledge of hardware and bus protocols including: CAN, SSI, RS422, IBIS, Ethernet, 1553 The role will involve working on UK classified programmes the candidate must therefore be willing and able to obtain a security clearance to SC. Desired Skills: The role requires a working knowledge of the following skills, hence, experience in these areas will be an advantage: Saber RD simulation experience. Experience with Def Stan 61-5 part 6. Practical electrical installation, harness and busbar design experience. Prior ground vehicle design, integration and field trial experience. Practical past experience with 28V vehicle power generation and distribution system. Knowledge of EMC, and power system design to minimise signatures (Electric and Magnetic field). Experience of working in a structured development process environment. Knowledge of EMC Ability to support and manage aspects of assembly, integration and test. Experience of schematic capture and PCB layout. Awareness of MISRA, DO-178C and IEC61508 design. Relevant experience/understanding of the expectations of being employed in a safety critical marketplace (e.g. aerospace/medical/military).
