Elementary School Traffic Flow
Welcome to the Elementary drop-off and pick-up procedures. Our primary goal is safety. We want your
children to arrive safely and happily in their classrooms and be returned to their cars in the same way at the
end of the school day.
To accomplish this, we first have offset the Elementary School opening and dismissal times from the Middle
School times by 25 minutes. Secondly, Elementary procedures differ from Middle School procedures to
help students, parents, and staff to distinguish one group from another during busy traffic times. Please
see the map in your packet to help you learn the new system. Elementary and Middle School drivers are
asked to use two different routes and two different procedures in the parking lot.
Parking
There are three places for parents to park if they choose to walk their children to or from the building. One
small parking area is located next to the building between our office doors and the Auditorium doors in 1012 parking stalls. Two larger areas are the north sides of the middle and upper parking islands. The south
sides will be used for faculty and staff vehicles. The north sides are reserved for parents throughout the
day.
Walking In
CSCS will station personnel at entry points to provide security during drop-off and pick-up times. Parents,
please be understanding as several different staff members get to know you. You may be asked for
identification, especially early in the year when we are getting acquainted and learning to recognize family
members or other parent-designated chaperones.
Drop-Off
Elementary Parents are asked to use curbside drop-off in the mornings by pulling through the lane between
the orange cones and the curb which lies below the Elementary playground. One lane will be open in the
mornings and is intended for use exclusively by Elementary parents. A second lane will be coned-off to
provide a buffer area between moving traffic and curbside drop-off. We request that students exit their
cars on the curb side of their cars whenever possible. Please use this area for drop-off only and not for
sitting with your children before drop-off. This lane needs to flow smoothly. The three parking areas are
more appropriate for those who prefer to sit with their children before drop-off.
Pick-Up
Elementary Parents will use both coned areas for pick-up times in the afternoon. However we use two
lanes for pick-up time. When school dismisses, staff members will begin paging students to approximately
the first four cars in each lane. Once students for those eight cars are safely loaded, those cars will be
released and the two lines of cars will pull up for the next group of students. If, for some reason, a student
is delayed in leaving the building to get in his or her car, we will ask that driver to pull out and go to the
back of the line or park. Parents who prefer walking in to pick up their children may do that. Again, please
be prepared for a staff member to verify your identity.
Parents with both Elementary as well as older students may choose to go through the High School or
Middle School pick-up procedures or wait until Elementary dismisses and have their older children join
them then.
Students not picked up by 3:45 p.m. will be taken to a classroom for supervision. There is a fee for this
service.
