Who we are:
Up The Road Theatre is a new company based in Kent. Inspired by rural touring companies such as
Eastern Angles, our work is scaled-back and stripped down, using actors, text, invention and
imagination to tell a story. We will take work out to communities – small-scale, easily accessible
pieces with a wide appeal.
For our first production we are collaborating with Unity Theatre to create ‘Bardolph’s Box’, a lively
introduction to Shakespeare’s plays for 8-12 year olds and their families. This small-scale production
will tour to libraries, community spaces and studio theatres.
Unity Theatre is one of the best loved theatres in Liverpool, recently winning Best Performing Venue
at the Mersey Partnership Tourism Awards. Work for under 12s is one of our priority areas. Recent
productions include 4-star productions of ‘Rumpelstiltskin’ (with Action Transport), ‘Lampedusa’
(with Soho Theatre and Hightide) and ‘Chicken’ (with Eastern Angles).
The production is supported by a grant from Arts Council England.
