SUMMER STUDIO RESIDENCY INFORMATION PACK Emerging Artist and Mid-Career Artist 1 December 2015 – 10 January 2016 Penrith Regional Gallery & The Lewers Bequest is set on the western bank of the Nepean River at the foot of the Blue Mountains at Emu Plains. The Gallery was established in 1981 at the former home of modernist artists, Margo and Gerald Lewers. The Gallery is committed to supporting the professional development of artists within and beyond our region. The Summer Studio Residency initiative offers artists the opportunity to undertake a six week studio residency (gratis) in the Sonia Farley Studios at our Emu Plains site. The positions are: Emerging < 5 years of professional practice Mid Career >5 years of professional practice The Summer Studio Residency is open to individuals and collectives and will take place over six weeks in summer and begins on the Tuesday, 1 December 2015. The resident will have seven day access to the site, during business hours. Public holidays are excluded. The residency offers: - Generous modern studio space; A $1000 stipend (incl. GST) upon receipt of invoice; A Heritage setting; Professional development and networking opportunities; Access to the Gallery’s community of curators, artists and technicians; Access to the Gallery’s library and permanent collection of Australian modern and contemporary art; Amenities including a private, air-conditioned studio (52 square metres) with wet area, large tables and lounge and access to the Gallery’s office, WIFI and kitchen facilities. Artist-in-Resident Outcomes - At the conclusion of the residency, the artist-in-resident will have the opportunity to develop an artwork proposal for the Gallery’s Artist Board program - a space dedicated to showcasing work by local and emerging artists. This is currently scheduled for Janurary 26 2016 (Australia Day). Criteria Applicants will be assessed on: - The quality of their proposal; The artistic merit of their support material, and How their practice will benefit from access to studio space and Gallery resources and locale. The successful applicant must permit the use of their submitted images for media purposes. Please note: this residency is independent of the Gallery’s exhibition program and does not include accommodation or allowances for travel. The Gallery gives no guarantee of an exhibition outcome for residents. Access to the studio is strictly between 9am-5pm, Monday to Sunday.
