Role Description Communications Intern Purpose: This role will enable the Intern to gain an understanding of marketing and events within the heritage/conservation sector and provide support to the Income Generation team in their fundraising initiatives. Responsible to: Kevin Crowe, National Marketing Manager Number of hours: 16 – 24 hours per week Length of Contract: 13 weeks/3 months Key Tasks Fundraising projects may include: Research into how the Churches Conservation Trust (CCT) may be marketed on external websites, online directories, and through merchandising, including sourcing objects, negotiating quotes and procuring samples Researching media outlets which the CCT might become involved with, including their submission processes, deadlines & readership Researching films that have taken place in CCT churches in order to promote the availability of our churches as film locations Coordinating the social media campaign for an up coming event Researching case studies that can be used in press stories on the CCT Assisting in the organisation of events, including venue research, local advertising opportunities and target groups to take part. Ensuring national events are accurately uploaded onto the CCT website and internal database, ThankQ Researching images that can be used by the CCT, collating and filing them Administrative tasks may include: Website maintenance support, including writing content for the website Using Vocus, our media monitoring and contact database, to record and save mentions of the CCT in the media Updating CCT media contacts Assisting in the coordination of mailings to press/supporters Supporting the maintenance of CCT social media platforms, including Facebook and Twitter Competitor Analysis, including compiling a report on the PR & Marketing practices of a major competitor Ad Hoc PR support as and when required Administrative office tasks as directed, including data input and filing. Person Specification We are looking for someone with: Experience of working with Microsoft software packages including Word, Excel and Outlook Experience of working in an office environment an advantage Research experience is desirable but not essential Self-motivated and able to use initiative Excellent written and oral communication skills Able to manage time efficiently Energetic, humorous and enthusiastic This role is ideal for someone who: Is keen to develop an understanding of marketing, PR or events within a fundraising environment Wants to pursue a career in the charity and/or heritage sector Would like to experience working in a fast-paced office environment Wants to develop an understanding of the current marketing initiatives in the heritage sector Enjoys liaising with many different kinds of people, from those in management to volunteers on the ground Is looking to find a permanent ‘Assistant’ or ‘Officer’ role within a charity, for example a Communications Assistant or Marketing Officer Key Working Relationships Working to the National Marketing Manager, the post holder will also have regular contact with the Director for Income Generation, the National PR and Events Officer, the Community Fundraising and Events Officer, regional Marketing Officers and volunteers 2
