Marketing Officer
Purpose:
To expand CCT’s profile within existing markets and
develop new markets to increase the number of visitors to
CCT churches in the region.
To engage with audiences, develop support and raise
income for CCT.

Task Description
The marketing officer is responsible for delivery of the Trust’s strategies for
tourism, marketing and communications in the region. The post holder will
support the regional team and volunteers and work closely with the national
income generation team to promote CCT churches and the work of the Trust,
develop and deliver plans and activities to support income generation and
develop opportunities to deepen engagement with audiences to meet the
objectives in the region’s business plan.
Key Tasks
a) Marketing and Promotion
The post holder will deliver the marketing and PR plan for the region and will:







Co-ordinate and promote regional aspects of national campaigns including
PR, advertising, literature, visitor research and events
Participate in the development of national audience development, marketing
and communications plans, ensuring they are fit for purpose for regional
delivery
Be the regional contact for volunteers for publicity and branding, working
closely with the national marketing manager
Provide the regional press office, liaising with the national events and PR
officer and co-ordinate PR opportunities for the Trust’s conservation and
community work in the region with local media
Provide regional co-ordination for travel trade enquiries and events
Organise and attend regional promotional and income generation events with
volunteers
Be the regional representative for the CCT website and social media

b) Tourism Marketing
With the operations manager the post holder will identify opportunities for
tourism partnerships and develop relationships with them, priority destination
marketing organisations (DMOs), and/or heritage partners to raise the profile of
the CCT and share industry practice. S/he will:




Co-ordinate participation in VisitEngland visitor quality standards and advise
the operations manager on actions needed to meet those standards
Monitor regional trends in visitor numbers to provide a benchmark with other
tourism attractions to enable effective planning
With the national income generation team, organise training for church
stewards, maintaining Trust quality and standards in all outward facing work
Provide support and information for local groups and volunteers on tourism
matters
c) Income Generation
The post holder will be a regional focal point for implementing national income
generation strategies and will support the regional team and volunteers in
recruiting members to CCT’s Supporters scheme. Working closely with the
national income generation team, s/he will:






Promote and provide information on the Trust’s Supporters scheme and
monitor the region’s performance in this area
Co-ordinate the region’s annual fundraising and marketing events calendar
Co-ordinate and manage the promotion of CCT churches as venues for events
to third-party hirers, including film location companies
Co-ordinate regional roll out of national merchandise, monitoring income and
take up of different materials
Implement national strategies to develop corporate sponsorship and
corporate volunteering in the region
Contribute to the development of national projects, participating in working
groups led by the national income generation team

Qualifications and Training
1. Relevant qualification in marketing or equivalent or willingness to
obtain
Experience
2. At least two years’ experience in heritage, tourism or a related
marketing environment
3. Experience within a heritage or visitor attraction sector
4. Experience of developing partnership projects
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
5. Ability to assimilate information to provide customer focused
information
6. Effective project management skills
7. Knowledge of the heritage and/or tourism industry
8. The ability to manage a heavy workload, capable of working in a
small team with flexibility to shift workloads and projects
9. Good IT skills and the ability to be self-sufficient in terms of
administration
Personal Qualities
10. Strong written and oral communication skills; able to present
information in an effective way to different audiences

Job Requirements


A willingness to travel, using public transport as far as possible.
Attendance at regional staff meetings and some full staff meetings in other
parts of the UK
Key Working Relationships

Working to the line manager, the post holder will also have regular
contact with the operations manage and national income generation team.
The post holder will take an active part in the Trust’s audience
development forum.
