Community Pharmacy Residency (PGY1)

Introduction and Purpose

The Community Pharmacy Residency offers an advanced training opportunity with direct patient contact to enhance clinical skills, develop and implement patient care services, to become leader and innovator in community practice pharmacy and optimize transition of care.

The residency is a one-year program that provides diverse experiences in pharmaceutical care in the community practice setting.

Residents who successfully complete this program are well prepared for career opportunities in medication and disease state management and teaching.

Required experiences include community practice, ambulatory care, drug information, practice management, and teaching certification. This program partners with Northeast Ohio Medical

University’s College of Pharmacy.

Core Requirements

Pharmacy Journal Club/Case Conference/C.E. presentation

The Department of Pharmacy professional staff and students meet twice weekly to review current articles of interest from the medical/pharmacy literature. Each resident is required to attend weekly as schedule permits. Each resident will review and present monthly to the group. In addition, the resident will be required to attend and present at an Ambulatory Care journal club, which occurs at least once monthly . Description of the format, objectives, and evaluation form are provided in the Presentation section of the manual.

Seminar

Each resident will present one formal seminar during the residency program. Each resident is required to attend all seminar presentations, as schedule permits. Description of seminar format, objectives, and evaluation form are provided in the Presentation section of the manual.

Projects and Research

Description of activities for projects and research may be found in the Research/DUE section of this manual. Description of requirements for projects and research for successful completion of the residency are also outlined in those sections. Each resident is required to do one research project and one DUE

Staffing

The resident will be required to staff in a weekend rotation and one major holiday in addition to the core required staffing experience.
