Wayne State University – Rite Aid Community Pharmacy Residency The Wayne State University Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences/Rite Aid Community Pharmacy Practice Residency is a dynamic jointly sponsored community pharmacy residency with the goal of utilizing pharmacy services and business management to provide the best patient outcomes as a multi-stakeholder in the total health care team. The resident will provide and facilitate educational, wellness and disease state management and prevention programs within the community and surrounding areas. In addition, the resident will deliver advanced patient care in a community pharmacy setting by providing services offered in and through the community pharmacy practice site to include but not limited to, year round immunization services, medication therapy management services, diabetes disease state management programs, superior self-care advice to patients, and local outreach programs for the community. A community based research project must be completed and the results presented to professional colleagues at a national meeting. The program will enable the resident to acquire the operational and financial management skills which are needed to quantify performance based incentives for achieving measurable health improvements. The resident will be required to take courses towards the MBA degree during their first year in the residency and could continue to take courses towards earning their degree following completion of the residency. Courses include Accounting and Financial Reporting, Introduction to Business, and Business Economics which are offered through convenient modules and web based programs. The residency will develop leaders in community clinical pharmacy management and practice through valuable teaching experiences which are incorporated into the residency including instruction to didactic small and large group sessions, educating Doctor of Pharmacy level students, health care professionals, and the community at large. Residents will participate in the Wayne State University Residency Teaching Certificate program along with other PGY1 residents in the metropolitan Detroit area. The program is 12 months in length with an expected start date of July 1, 2013. Possess a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE)-accredited pharmacy program and be eligible for licensure in the state of Michigan prior to beginning the residency program. 2.
