Learn simple techniques to paint the illusion of textured rocks and trees… and have FUN while doing so! Through large colorful washes, spraying, spattering, and negative painting techniques, students will find enjoyment, success, and techniques one could use to paint any subject. Participants will be provided with a sketch to transfer from, a color reference photo, a typed outline (so you can focus on instruction vs taking notes), and step-by-step instruction through all stages of the painting. Bring a few sheets. We will be working on a quarter sheet (11x15) or smaller. - Transfer/Graphite Paper and a colored ball-point pen (red works well). - Tools for lifting/softening highlights: Incredible Nib or Stiff Bristle Brush or Fritch Scrubber. - Paint: You will need Yellow, Red, Blue, and a dark such as Paynes Gray. I’ll be using mostly American Journey colors: Joes Yellow, Joes Red, Cobalt Blue, Paynes Gray. Other colors could work such as Indigo for your dark and Ultramarine Blue instead of Cobalt Blue. Bring your other favorite colors. - Brushes: A variety of rounds and flats will work fine. I use a variety of synthetics (Robert Simmons and Loew-Cornell): Round: #4, 10, 12, 14, 36. Flat: 1” and 2”.
