OUR Credit Union Donates 97 lbs. of Cold-Weather Materials to Royal Oak Youth Assistance
This year was the first year OUR Credit Union hosted a Mitten Drive. The Mitten Drive was put in
place to coincide with their Seasonal Loan Special. For every loan funded, OUR Credit Union
donated three pairs of gloves to the Royal Oak Youth Assistance. The Mitten Drive took place from
November 20th through February 28th.
OUR Credit Union accepted cold-weather gear donations from members at each of their branches.
Donations included new winter coats, gloves, mittens, hats, and scarves. Credit Union employees
competed between their four branch locations to collect the most materials to donate. OUR Credit
Union donated the gear throughout the winter four times so the children receiving the gifts had them
as soon as possible. Between member and OUR CU donations, about 97 lbs. of materials were
donated to the Royal Oak Youth Assistance this winter, which is the weight equivalent of about 300
mittens.
OUR Credit Union’s President/CEO, Tina Dix, was especially thrilled in the tremendous efforts by
both OUR CU members & staff. “OUR Credit Union has made giving back to our local communities a
top priority. Committed to the credit union philosophy of ‘People Helping People’, we strive to make a
difference in our local communities through monetary donations, volunteerism and free financial
education.” OUR members have always been very generous in helping us meet our fundraising goals
and this was again demonstrated with the donations we received to benefit to the Mitten Drive for
Royal Oak Youth Assistance.”
The winning branch, and coincidentally OUR Credit Union’s headquarters located on Normandy Rd,
was able to collect about 45 lbs. of materials. “OUR Credit Union’s members’ generosity has truly
surpassed our expectations and we are extremely grateful to our members for consistently giving
back to our community.” said Normandy’s Branch Manager, Nicole Gnyp, “We are especially thankful
to two very special members; one who brought in a large amount of hand-knit hats & scarves, and
another who brought in 15lbs of brand new coats, hats, and gloves!”.
The Royal Oak Youth Assistance is a volunteer social service agency dedicated to primary and
secondary prevention measures. They offer professional counseling services, skill building grants,
camp scholarships, mentoring and an annual youth recognition event.
