Class of 2016 Graduation Attire Policy
Westbury High School and the Houston Independent School District have determined that there will be a
formal and distinguished graduation celebration. All students participating in the graduation ceremony are
expected to abide by the following dress code.
Female Attire






All will wear a knee-length dress (dress should not be longer than graduation gown), or white blouse
(not shear) with black slacks under the graduation gown.
All should wear black or navy blue, low-heeled shoes, students will be required to stand for at least two
hours prior to the beginning of the ceremony, and then will be required to walk on floor covering that is
taped down to the floor.
No mini-skirts, shorts, jeans, or t-shirts of any kind allowed
No clothing with pictures or wording allowed
No flip flops, house shoes, slippers, or athletic shoes allowed.
No do rags, stocking caps, or bandanas allowed under graduation cap.
Male Attire






All will wear black or navy blue slacks fitted at the waist with a belt, a white button down dress
shirt with a black or navy blue tie (bow ties are acceptable).
All should wear black or navy blue dress shoes.
No jeans, shorts, sagging pants, or t-shirts of any kind allowed.
No clothing with pictures or wording allowed.
No flip flops, house shoes, slippers, or athletic shoes allowed.
No do rags, stocking caps, or bandanas are allowed under graduation cap.
Cap and Gown




Try on both cap and gown as soon as it is received.
Caps must be worn with the top of the cap flat, not at an angle. Please be mindful of this when
styling hair.
Top of caps cannot have any decorations.
Gowns must be pressed and neat.
Arm Band

All students will be issued an arm band that will be placed on their left wrist at the final graduation
rehearsal. Any student not wearing this arm band will not be admitted onto the floor.
Consequences
Any graduate who is inappropriately dressed will be sent home to change and risk
missing the graduation ceremony.
