Telling the story of the Cultural Revolution An Illustrative Timeline… Essential question: What was the Chinese Cultural Revolution and how did it affect Chinese society? Learning Goals LG 3 - Examine the Cultural Revolution and understand its impact of Chinese society in the past and the present. Research: 1. Locate, evaluate, organize and process information to develop and communicate ideas Communication: 1. Clearly communicate and support ideas with well-chosen evidence in written, oral, visual and digital products. The objective for you is to the tell the story of the cultural revolution using dates, text and illustrations, (drawings etc.) making note of key events, historical figures, facts, and news media. You will show your knowledge of the Great Proletariat Cultural Revolution in China in an informative, creative and imaginative way. Your timeline will have 10 panels. One will be the title panel and the last one will be the conclusion panel. All panels will have subheadings; a ½ inch border around them and the whole timeline will be in chronological order from 1965/66 to 1976. All panels will have at least one illustration or more and informative text about the Cultural Revolution. Text must be full sentences giving the overall general information to the reader. The objective is for you to the tell the story of the cultural revolution using dates, texts and illustrations, making note of key events, historical figures, facts, news media etc. and all sources must be cited. Affect on China’s Citizens (Propaganda posters/Songs/Real stories, imprisonment etc.). 9. Affect on China Today (What is said about the Cultural Revolution today i.e. News Media). 10. Conclusion (Gang of Four Arrest: summary of the Cultural Revolution). You will create all the images. You may type out and then print your text. Handwriting is fine but it must be done neatly and legibly. Remember that although this is an informative & instructive project with accurate facts, emphasis should be placed on being creative and imaginative. You have a ton of information already from the PP lectures, activities in class, films and glossary of terms. Use all that to help you. Use the books in the LIB and talk to Chinese people. Get their story. Aim for accurate historical information and a high quality artistic product. All text must be legible.
