KIDS’ TURN
FREE PROGRAMME FOR FAMILIES GOING THROUGH SEPARATION AND DIVORCE
Kids’ Turn is available to parents who are going through separation and divorce, accompanied by
their children. The Kids’ Turn workshops are designed for the whole family to attend together, and
help all family members across all age ranges - with the emphasis on the wellbeing of the children.
Relate Cambridge has been working with the National Family Mediation Service to run the Kids’ Turn
programme. The course is led by Relate counsellors and NFM accredited family mediators. Both are
trained to a rigorous standard which jointly incorporates legal, therapeutic and practical skills. Both
organisations have a strong knowledge and expertise of working with children.
This is not a therapy programme (though has therapeutic benefits) but an educational programme,
focusing on skill building to change behaviour. Research shows that parents who take part in
educational programmes to ease their children through divorce or separation can really help their
children through this difficult time.
The goals are simple but important - to reduce conflict, increase communication and maintain a
supportive, cohesive environment in which family members can openly talk and solve problems.
Furthermore, the aim is to protect and promote the health and well-being of children as they grow
up in two homes.
The Kids’ Turn programme focuses on two major areas:


Helping children through the circumstances created when parents don’t live together
Helping parents to build their emotional strengths to get through this difficult, temporary
life experience
Two Kids’ Turn pilot programmes have already been delivered in Cambridge with very good feedback
and are being provided free of charge in this area with funding from the Department of Education.
We are running the last of our Kids’ Turn pilot programmes and this time it is over 4 weeks, so may
be more manageable for families. It starts on 24th April and we are now recruiting families. It is ideal
if the whole family comes along to work through the issues raised when parents separate but we can
still help if only one parent is able to attend.
It is an amazing programme with really positive outcomes. If you are interested, please contact:
