A separate letter details this program. Prizes will be awarded for all who attempt the challenge. A special recognition will be given to those who accomplish the challenge. ** Don’t forget that you can listen to audio books while traveling this summer. Listening to audio books as a family in the car is a great way to pass time, use imagination, and show that books are important! Batesville Memorial Public Library Summer Reading Program: Dig Into Reading Sign-ups for all ages begins June 2. Earn prizes as you read this summer. Tumblebook Library (Ebooks for Ekids): Tumblebook library is a collection of electronic books. The students are able to read along with the words as the computer reads the book to them. There are also puzzles, games, and quizzes that coordinate with books to reinforce educational concepts such as opposites, colors, sequencing, typing, verbs, spelling, matching, etc,. . . Read Like a Pro — Call-a-Pacer 2014 on The Indianapolis Public Library’s 24-hour Call-a-Story telephone line. By dialing toll-free 877-275-9007, callers will hear recorded stories from Pacers players who demonstrate their love of reading as a way to encourage young ones to develop the habit. Other Great Book Resources: Hoosier Family of Readers Literacy Initiative from the Indiana Department of Education provides access to MyOn books. This is a digital library of over 3,000 books available free. Each month features three new campaigns. It is a great way of, “combining the joy of reading with the power of helping others.” Storyline Online - http://www.storylineonline.net/ - Is a website maintained by the Screen Actors Guild Foundation. It features famous actors reading their favorite children’s story. Many companies offer summer reading promotions. Some places to start include: Barnes and Noble, Borders, Half Price Books, Chuckie Cheese. I’m sure there are many more available! Each minute reading earns a minute on an electronic device or TV show. **Some reading experts also suggest turning off the sound and turning on the closed captioning on the TV. Have a great summer!
