Call to the Audience
Campaign for Campus Roadshow - Nate Carney is here to speak on behalf of the Campaign
for Campus Roadshow, and part of his job is to get people engaged in philanthropy for the
university, whether it is students, faculty, staff, or anyone else in the community. The
campaign is mainly a fundraising effort, with the goal of $100,000,000. Those involved
started counting money toward the campaign in 2009 and will launch the public portion on
October 18th, 2013, which will continue through 2016. NAU has a great reputation for being
student centered, and this fundraiser is designed to secure the ability to do that and
accelerate this ability as well. Carney says the effort is to try to help folks understand why
philanthropy is important and necessary on campus. State funding for universities is being
gradually reduced over the years, in the past few years has gone from 41% to 23%, and this
campaign is a cool and innovative way to help. This is a comprehensive campaign not a
capital campaign, the difference being it is completely about the students instead of
buildings, and will be used for scholarships, programs, and anything else to enhance the
student experience. The theme is ‘Only at NAU’. Carney has spoken with alumni, faculty,
and students, and has heard a wide variety of stories, which brought on this theme. This
campaign will embark on telling these stories and this will be a large foundation to help
fund the university and help NAU to continue helping first generation college students. He
is asking that ASNAU help to spread the message on campus through influence and by
spreading around posters, which will be available soon. Also if you can, participate in the
effort, as every gift will help the goal to be reached. There is currently a very large and
active student philanthropy council at NAU, which will be collaborating on these efforts as
well. Please listen to what they have to say if they approach you and share stories as well.
Finally, please stay tuned via the website, which will be www.nau.edu/campaign. Nate
Carney thanks everyone for the time.
Questions: Senator Gorshe asks Carney to clarify the monetary goal and where will it be
spent? Carney says one way the money will be spent is through an endowed gift, examples
of this being student scholarships, and helping to provide the university with more
resources in places such as advising and counseling. The campaign has $53,000,000
towards the $100,000,000 goal so far.
Green Fund- Karen has come to ASNAU to bring updates on the Green Fund efforts for this
month. They are working on a sister on south campus to collect rainwater to assist in
irrigation. The other main effort is trying to get recycle bins at all the sporting events and
tailgates. They are coordinating with athletics and more to get this going, and will hopefully
will have it for the next home game and for sure by homecoming if not sooner.
Unfinished Business
Club Recognition: Greeks Advocating the Mature Management of Alcohol (GAMMA)
New Action Business
Motion: Senator Libby move to vote on Item A: Club Recognition: Louie’s Cupboard
Second: Senator Boruch
Discussion: Jaclyn Brown is here to talk about the creation of this on-campus food pantry
for students who cannot afford a meal plan or food. The mission is to be student-run and to
provide for students in need. The idea came from a class. Louie’s Cupboard will have nonperishable food items to be donated by students and faculty, as well as different
organizations and businesses around the community and will open on October 18th.
Questions: Senator Libby asks if there will be a room dedicated to this effort and if not, how
will the items be distributed. Jaclyn Brown says they have shelving started already in a
room in the field house and are already starting to collect food. Volunteers will be
distributing, and will ask those who come about their access to can openers and running
water as well as other things that will determine what type of food they are distributed.
Vote: Unanimous, Item A: Club Recognition: Louie’s Cupboard has been approved
Motion: Senator Tillinghaust move to vote on Item B: Club Recognition: [NameGoesHere]
Improv
Second: Senator Cook
Discussion: William Wolf is the acting president for [NameGoesHere] Improv, which will an
improvisation group on campus. Improvisation is like acting without lines, and will be done
by friendly competition. He and his friends were looking to start the group and the style is
head-to-head. Winner will be decided based on audience feedback. Senator Boruch says
that in the constitution they have names by the positions and should remove this so they
don’t have to change it every year.
Vote: Unanimous, Item B: Club Recognition: [NameGoesHere] Improv has been approved.
Motion: Senator Ortega move to vote on Item C: Club Recognition: Public Achievement
Second: Senator Cabral
Discussion: Noel Johnson is a Public Achievement coordinator through the freshman
seminar program. The Public Achievement Club will train student coaches that will go to

Sigma Honors Society would like to promote transfer students at Northern Arizona
University and get to know more about the society as a whole since they have just recently
been established here on campus. They will be learning things such as how to attract more
transfer students to Northern Arizona University. She is covering a lot of her meals and
other expenses; the $523.60 is only for flight expense.

Executive Reports
a. President- Makenzie Mastrud
- President Mastrud reports that the homecoming dedicatee has been
announced: Dr. David Pieortti. She would like to speak with anyone who has had
him as a professor after the meeting. She Chyna and Sammy will be attending
this gala for the highest donors to the university. They would like to talk to
members of ASNAU who have received scholarships from the university so the
donors can see where their money is going. If you have, please let her know after
the meeting. Senator Tillinghaust states that he talked to Christine about this
yesterday and asks if this is sufficient. President Mastrud says yes if you have
already talked to Christine that is fine. She also talked to the Student Regent
yesterday about a sidewalk that will be built on south campus on pine knoll at
the area where there are no sidewalks towards the apartments at Clear Creek
and the Ridge. Homecoming Royalty packets are all turned in and voting is
taking place on the 14th of October. Next Tuesday October 8th at 3:00P.M is the
Parking Services Forum and she would like everyone to come. She and Annsley
attended the Student Leadership workshop yesterday. She also attended the
President’s forum where they went over the following: undergraduate
residential education, budget, enrollment which is currently at 19,320, how
academic courses are delivered, and the search for President Haeger’s
replacement. She is soon meeting with library again to continue pursuing
extended hours during reading and finals week, and the café has said that if the
library hours are extended they will extended their hours as well at no cost to
ASNAU. . She is looking at prices to extend the shuttle hours when the library
will be open as well so students do not have to walk home late at night. President
Mastrud met with Paula, Ashley, and Christine and will have an updated budget
for ASNAU next week. She has been in contact with Marsha, who was at the
September 5th Senate meeting to discuss creating a bus route that would take
students further around town and to places like the Flagstaff Mall and the
Bowling Alley. This will cost $750 per ride and Mastrud would like to know if
ASNAU is interested in funding this. Senator Libby says that if you did the math,
even if there were 75 students riding, which she doesn’t believe will happen, it
would be $10 a person and we could do better with that money. Senator Ortega
says that this could be a great benefit to the students and will create a fun thing
for them to do. Senator Cabral asks about student feedback and polls. President
Mastrud replies that this hasn’t been done but she has asked Marsha to get an
idea of the amount of student interest for this route.
b. Vice President of Student affairs- CJ Cooper
- VP Cooper reports that he met with Club Headquarters today, he is doing a
weekly meeting from 4:00 to 5:00 P.M and this week they have established
positions within the Club Headquarters office. A staff lead has been put in place
to ensure that everything is running smoothly, and will act as VP Cooper’s liaison
to make sure staff is on point. They have a publicity chair for club headquarters,
and an inventory lead to make sure they are fully stocked. Finally they have a
promotions lead to let clubs have a certain extra copies another day or
something to promote club headquarters. Still determining those. There is a club
that culminates their copies and has been taking advantage of Club
Headquarters. VP Cooper will be making sure the 75 copies per day limit is
enforced and asks that Front Desk uses caution with clubs and the amount of
copies they are given from the office as well. Tailgate was really popular and he
couldn’t have asked for a better one. They almost filled an entire lot and if
anyone turns in a packet, its first come first serve and the lot will be filled for
homecoming. He is placing an order for foam axes to be put under the seats for
homecoming, and will need lots of people to come especially for monitoring
wristbands. Elizabeth is working on registration form for Make a Difference Day
and they will start promoting it Monday when the form is out. Spencer and
Colleen have made great posters and please put them up in colleges.
c. Vice President of Academic Affairs- Shayla Woodhouse

and if anyone ever gets too busy in these next few weeks and needs to work on
homework she understands, as it is one of the most important things. She has
been working on getting a good concrete committees list so it doesn’t change as
much from year to year. Thank you to Senator Buchta for volunteering to sit on
the University Curriculum Committee and Senator Tillinghaust for volunteering
to sit on as Cyber Security Committee. She would also like to know if anyone is
available from 5:30-6:30 P.M for the Graduate Student Government meetings on
Mondays. These could be attended on a rotating basis. She will send an email
regarding this. She will do one-on-ones next week during office hours and will
contact senators if she cannot make it to their specific hours. STAC is a good
resource as Chyna mentioned last week. A document will be created about the
other sources of funding on campus such as STAC and email out. Karen from
Green Fund will be here every month to update. She and Senator Libby passed

been very busy this week. Family Weekend Game Night was a huge success.
Thank you to those who have volunteered as well to Chyna and Jillian for all of
their hard work. They are the best Special Events Coordinators she has seen thus
far. Spencer and Colleen have been working really hard on homecoming fliers.
She spoke with Shayla and they are going to try a new distribution method. Once
fliers and posters are available they will pass out a few to every ASNAU member.
Hang them up in the college you have class in. Mastrud adds that there is a board
in SBS that is advertising ASA from last year, and asks if there are any other
colleges that have a board that’s just for ASNAU. Talk to Dean if this is true. Joey
and Spencer worked to update the ASNAU Facebook page and we finally have
over 1000 likes. Please get on Facebook this weekend and suggest to all of your
friends to like the page. They will update the page with different pictures and
events going on around campus on a regular basis. Jeremy, Annsley, and Derek
