Fundraising
We were delighted to receive a certificate from Rosey Johnson who is a fundraiser at
St Raphael’s Hospice to thank us for helping to raise money at Christmas through
carol singing. We in turn were very pleased to give her a cheque for £264 which was
raised by the staff from one of our charity lunches.
Easter Hat Parade
Year 1 and Year 2 parents are invited into school on Wednesday 25th March at
9.00am for songs and an Easter hat parade. Please bring your child to school in their
Easter hats on that day.
Reception parents are invited to their classes at 2.45 p.m. on Wednesday 25th March
so that we can entertain you with spring songs and a display of Easter hats.
Spring Sing
The Nursery children will be entertaining their parents with Spring songs on
Thursday 26th March at 9.10am for Nursery morning parents and 12.40pm for
Nursery afternoon parents. More information to follow.
Dragonflies’ children will be entertaining their parents on Tuesday 24th March at
11am for morning children and 2.30pm for afternoon children.
School Improvements
I am delighted to say that the outside of our school (Robin Hood Lane) will be revamped during the Easter holidays. There will be new markings and ‘pencils’
installed which we hope will help to keep the children safe and stop the illegal
parking outside of the school gates.
We are also delighted that the infants’ playground is being re-surfaced and once this
has been finished new playground markings will be painted on.
Reception Phonics Workshops
Thank you to all of the families who attended the workshops. I hope that you found
the sessions enjoyable.
Advanced Reading Skills
The talk given by Mrs Aziz was very well attended and excellent feedback given from
parents. We value your comments and take on board your ideas for future
workshops.
Year 1 Workshops
It was lovely to see so many parents at our Year 1 workshops last week.
children really enjoy their families coming into school and working with them.
The
Scarlet Fever
I have been asked to inform families that there has been a national increase in
Scarlet Fever notifications to Public Health England. Scarlet Fever is a notifiable
disease and we would like to take this opportunity to remind you of the signs,
symptoms and the actions to be taken.
Signs and Symptoms
Scarlet fever is a common childhood infection. The early symptoms include a sore
throat, headache, fever, nausea and vomiting. After 12 to 48 hours the characteristic
pinhead rash develops, typically first appearing on the chest and stomach, then
rapidly spreading to other parts of the body, and giving the skin a sandpaper-like
texture. The scarlet rash may be harder to spot on the skin of some Black and Asian
people, although the ‘sandpaper’ feel should be present. Patients typically have
flushed cheeks and pallor around the mouth. This may be accompanied by a
‘strawberry tongue’. As the child improves peeling of the skin may occur.
Children and adults with suspected Scarlet Fever should be excluded from school /
work for 24 hours after the commencement of appropriate antibiotic treatment, Good
hygiene, as always, is good practice to prevent the spread of infection.
SICKNESS AND DIARRHOEA ADVICE TO PARENTS
Sickness and diarrhoea can be very contagious. Please help us to prevent it from
spreading.
 If your child has been sick or had diarrhoea once, wait 24 hours before sending
them back to school.
 If the sickness/diarrhoea is more serious, wait until your child has had no
symptoms for 48 hours before sending them back to school.
 If your child is ill at school, you will be contacted as soon as possible and
asked to take him/her home.
 Check to see that your child is washing his/her hands thoroughly after going
to the toilet or handling food.
 Use disinfectant to clean any soiling from sickness or diarrhoea.
Please keep the school informed.
Medication
Can all parents whose children have medication in school please check with the
office (or class teacher if they attend the Nursery) that it is in date. Thank you.
Website
The school website is up and running and the teachers are busy putting things in the
various rooms for families. Do take time to have a look and please let us know what
you think.
Daffodils
We are selling daffodil brooches at £1 each, to benefit the Marie Curie Cancer Care
Charity; these are available from both school offices.
Yes please! Yes please!
We are glad to accept, Sainsbury Vouchers as they give us useful resources.
Chickenpox
Can I remind families to please inform the school if your child catches chickenpox so
that we can inform other families? Thank you.
School Trips
Year 2 have booked their trip to the Sea life Centre in Brighton on 23rd June 2015.
They will be fundraising to help with the cost and we thank you for supporting them.
Their cake sale before half term raised a magnificent £240 and I would like to thank
everyone for their magnificent support.
Year 1 are planning on visiting Box Hill on 25th June and the Reception classes will
be visiting Bocketts Farm in July. Details to follow for all trips will be sent home
shortly.
Cardboard Challenge
The Nursery and Reception children had a wonderful time with their ‘cardboard
challenge’. There were some fantastic models created and painted. All in all a
lovely time was had by everyone!
ROBIN HOOD INFANTS NEWS
School Council
School Council has taken place and the children came up with some lovely
suggestions for new playground markings and activities.
E-safety
We have had some excellent feedback from families who attended the e-safety talk
yesterday.
Open Afternoon and Evening
Open afternoon and evening will be held on Monday 23rd March 3.20-6.30pm) and
Thursday 26th March (5-7pm). The Teaching Assistants will be in the playground on
Monday 9th March when you can make an appointment to see your child’s class
teacher.
School Dinners
Can I remind families that children cannot change from dinners to packed lunches on
a daily basis? Thank you.
Vaping
As families are aware there is no smoking across the federation site. Whilst I
appreciate that e-cigarettes are not illegal can I ask that you refrain from using these
either in the playground or outside the school as it could still have an influence on the
children. Thank you.
THOMAS WALL NURSERY NEWS
School Trip
We have chosen for farm animals to visit our Nursery on Monday 11th and Tuesday
12th May. Having a farm visit allows the children more individual time with the animals
giving more opportunities for them to hold, groom and feed the animals. The children
will really enjoy this day. Further details of this visit will follow.
Dragonflies Outing
Dragonflies will have an outing to Cheam Park during the summer term. This is a
lovely park. We have made this trip on previous years and the children all enjoyed it
very much. We will travel by mini bus, and parents will be invited to meet us at the
park. Dates to be announced early next term.
Nursery Writing Workshop
On Thursday 5th March we will be holding our Writing Workshop. Morning parents at
9.10am and afternoon parents at 1.45pm. The sessions will last for one hour.
Parent Consultations
These will take place on :
Monday 23rd March between 3.20 – 6.30 pm and
Thursday 26th March between 5 – 7 pm
Please sign up for an appointment – lists will be available in your child’s class from
Thursday 12th March. Please note that appointments are for 10 minutes only,
this ensures all parents have equal time with their child’s key worker.
Ms Quirk will write separately to parents in order to arrange appointment times
for these dates.
Spring Sing
The Nursery children will be entertaining you with their spring songs on Thursday
26th March at 9.10am for Nursery morning parents and 12.40pm for Nursery
afternoon parents. Please get creative and make an Easter Hat with your child!
Dragonflies Spring Sing
On Tuesday 24th March at 11am for morning children and 2.30pm for afternoon
children. Please get creative and make an Easter Hat with your child. The children
will be encouraged to wear their hats on this day.
Lateness/Absences
I am still concerned at the number of children who are frequently late or absent from
nursery. Children don’t enjoy being late because they miss some of the session and
this leaves them unsure of what to do and is very unsettling for them. If your child is
sick, please make sure you phone school on the first day of their sickness.
Games Library
We would be very grateful for any donations of games for the Games Library. Perhaps
games your older children have outgrown, or games your nursery child has become
bored with. We would also welcome any games in a foreign language you may no
longer need. Thank you. We are urgently looking for volunteers to run our
afternoon Games library, please see your child’s class teacher if you are able to
help. Thank you 
