NONFICTION TEXT STRUCTURES & FEATURES Final Project Your assignment is to create an informational newspaper about the subject of your book. You will be responsible for writing five different news articles, each with a different text structure and subtopic. When writing keep in mind the inverted pyramid, the news article structure. Subject:______________________________________________ Each of your five articles will be written with a different text structure in mind. You’ve placed post-its in spots in your text that will help you find the information you need for each of the below articles. Please remember you must include signal words within each article and a catchy title. Description: Write a news article that describes why your subject is important. Sequence & Order: This news article must describe how the subject got started in their career and their noteworthy accomplishments. (Dates may be helpful in sequencing this article) Problem & Solution: Within this news article write about the largest obstacle your subject faced and how they were able to overcome it. Compare & Contrast: Discuss the ways in which you and your subject are similar and different. Write an article that highlights these similarities and differences using examples. Cause & Effect: Reflecting on what you read, write an article that discusses any cause and effect relationship within your book. You must also include the following text features in your newspaper: Remember- text features enhance your reader’s understanding of the text, therefore should complement or extend the news articles written. At least two pictures Captions for each picture Diagram, map, timeline, or chart Glossary (include subject specific vocabulary) Sidebar Your newspaper must also include a minimum 5 question quiz about the information in your news articles and/or text features. Think critically about your questions and try to challenge your classmates! You will create this quiz in Google forms, and will only post the link on newspaper. Next Steps: 1. Begin drafting all five news articles. Type each of these articles into SEPARATE Google Docs. 2. October 27th: Rough Drafts of all FIVE articles are due today! No printing required, we will revise and edit online. 3. November 2nd: All Final Drafts of articles must be turned in via Google Classroom. You will see a separate assignment for each article. 4. Using paper and pencil, begin drafting some multiple choice questions regarding the information you provided within your news articles. Draft at least 5 questions. 5. November 9th- Using the rough draft of your questions, we will generate a Google Form together in class. 6. November 10th & 11th- We will work in the auditorium to format our writing, add our text features, and upload our Google Form link. 7. November 12-Celebrate our work, share and complete our peer’s quizzes.
