Hamlet Literary Groups Role: Newspaper Objective: To identify significant events in the Act and relate those events to character motivation, time period, and/or corresponding events Evaluation and analysis of key ideas and characterizations from the Act. Responsibilities: Your team will be responsible for creating the front page of a newspaper. Materials will be provided in class, though you are welcome to bring additional markers/supplies from home. Required items: Group - Full poster board containing: Minimum of one news story per team member Minimum of three graphics/illustrations to go with articles Minimum two ads for era-appropriate items (with graphics) – APPROPRIATE!! Newspaper title (relevant to Hamlet and/or Shakespeare) Group Instructions: Articles: o Decide which stories are newsworthy o Decide who will write each story (ONE article per team member) “Extras” o Decide who will be responsible for pictures, ads, layout, and title. You may use illustrations or computer-generated graphics. DO NOT USE pictures of the actors from the Hamlet video, or ANY pictures from ANY Hamlet version. They must be era-related, but not ‘plagiarism’ o EACH person is responsible for at least one “extra” ALL ARTICLES MUST BE TYPED INTO ONE GOOGLE DOC AND SUBMITTED TO TII – YOU MUST SHARE YOUR GOOGLE DOCS WITH ME AS YOU ARE WORKING ON THEM. I CAN SEE BY COLOR WHO IS CONTRIBUTING AND WHO IS NOT. IF YOU DO NOT INCLUDE ME IN THE SHARING OF YOUR TEAM WORK ON GOOGLE DOCS/GOOGLE DRIVE, ALL TEAM MEMBERS WILL RECEIVE A GRADE OF ZERO FOR ALL ASPECTS OF THEIR PRESENTATION. Individual Instructions: You are a journalist. Your job is to inform the people of your town about the events that have occurred in your Act. o Be specific about people involved, actions, reactions, emotions, decisions, etc. Include necessary background information, even if it is from a previous act. o Organization and sentence structure are important. Be sure to revise and proofread carefully. This will be displayed in a public place! o For your “extra,” you can include a visual to go with your article or write a clever advertisement for a product the people of the town might want to buy. The item should be era-appropriate, school appropriate, and possibly related to the characters or the events in the Act. It can be your own invention.
