Second: Katie Mitchell Abstain: Ryan Gribbin-Burket, Gina Cristallo, Sarah Losner, John Bruno Rest in favor Motion passes 4. Guests a. Michael Torres i. VP of Technology and Institutional Effectiveness: ii. Part of one of the 2020 task forces. Chairs the technology task force. Trying to create a technology plan for the next 5 years. Instead of a survey, decided to talk to different groups of people. iii. Three Questions: i. 1. What are the things Molloy does well with technology? a. Tracey Balinskas: If there are any problems in the classroom someone comes to fix it right away. b. Anna Delgado: Like the outside technology. As in the TVs, projectors, and charging stations (there should be more). c. Angelica Labrise: Wifi is better. d. Katie Mitchell: Macs and PCs in the public square. e. Melissa Guida: The new computers in the basement of Kellenberg- they’re working better. f. Anna Delgado: Love free printing. g. Mike Torres: Molloy is the only school that does free printing. One of the things I look at, printing. h. Sarah Losner: If we’re going to stop free printing, teachers should accept digital copies. i. Mike Torres: Looking to have printers at multiple locations and close to the current classroom you’re in. ii. j. Katie Mitchell: Each students pays a $150 technology fee. Was told you’re only aloud a certain number of prints with your username. k. Mike Torres: We can’t see who prints what. Trying to look into the overall numbers. l. Anja Jackowski: Professors allow us to send electronic copies, but personally when I proof read I like hard copies and physically writing on the paper. Everything electronic would change my work habits. m. Mike Torres: Not everything is going to be digital. But maybe in the future- not now. n. Michelle Lithgow: When I do presentations in class, we need to print copies for everyone in the class. o. Mike Torres: The committee personally just wants to see how much we really are printing. Molloy is the only school that doesn’t have fees for printing. p. Matt Considine: Most of the local printers aren’t able to print. Either out of paper/ ink. Need to take the time to find a printer that will actually print. It would be a good thing not to pay for printing because all the times it didn’t print. q. Anna Delgado: If you do this plan of charging for printing, how would you mange how much people print? Also departments as well? r. Mike Torres: No idea. We didn’t think this out. Just wanted to get thoughts. 2. What are some of the things Molloy doesn’t do well? a. Jake Schlapp: Last year wifi was based on if you had an apple, mac, windows, and etc. device. What happened to that? Wifi was better last semester. This year all users are logged onto one wifi. b. Mike Torres: Don’t remember why it changed, but will look into it. The Hagen Center will be completely different with the new technology. c. Katie Mitchell: In fitz, the wifi doesn’t even work. d. Mike Torres: In the dorms not so well. But in the hallways it’s spotty. e. Mike Goldin: In the Business Department, Bloomberg Terminals not hooked up properly. Students can’t access them. f. Mike Torres: If you log onto the terminal every few days Bloomberg requires you to log back on when you start to use them again. Going back and forth with them. Put them in this past spring semester. This committee has less control with the Bloomberg Terminal. Only really education focused. g. Mary-Kate Michels: Public square computers recently updated the software and the computers don’t have smart notebook anymore. It’s only on the computers in the education lab which is a limited number of computers. Also, the computers reboot at midnight. If we could push the reboot time to when the actual building closes. h. Anna Delgado: In the residence hall, the front desk computer shuts off at 11:30 pm. We therefore can’t retrieve the info off the computer. Happens randomly, not every day. i. Jackie Bassey: The computer lab in Kellenberg, it’s not just the wifi that doesn’t work. Chrome crashes and doesn’t respond. iii. 3. Classroom Technology: Positives or Negatives a. Sarah Losner: The classrooms with the computers on the back of the wall. Your back is to the teacher, not a good lay out. b. Matt Considine: Some of the teachers aren’t well trained in technology. c. Mike Torres: Molloy now has a training department in IT. We’ve currently been so caught up in canvas and teaching it to the faculty. Moving forward, we have more resources adding to this plan. d. David Seuling: Since the update in the computers software you can’t login to the computers in the classrooms. e. Mike Torres: It should work- if it doesn’t let us know. f. Liz Meittinis: In the classrooms, some of the smartboards you’re not able to have more than one page of smartboard programs open. My math classes you need that. The color pens don’t collaborate either. g. Mike Torres: Moving forward, we need to do better placement of wifi and map out campus dead zones. Put wifi where necessary. Wireless in general is a big plan. h. Sarah Losner: Technology fee- what is the breakdown? i. Mike Torres: Doesn’t really have a breakdown. It’s hard to see what technology is and what it is not. Overall fee is what happens. Examining technology fees is something I want to do, see if the price is too high or too low. iv. All these issues are important to hear ASAP. Send an email to helpdesk@molloy.edu or talk to Bob/ Janine in Student Affairs and they will contact us. 5. Committees 6. Legislature Officer Reports a. Academic Programming i. Course Evaluations: i.
