Math 4 Every Grade Adds Up
Dear Davis Parents,
This year, unlike years past, we have decided to hold two parent-teacher
conferences during the year instead of three. In exchange for the third
conference, we are providing one math family night and one literacy family night.
Our first family math night will be on December 3rd from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
Dinner will be provided from 7:15-8:00 p.m. Davis teachers are excited for this
night and I strongly encourage you to show your support for your child’s
education and for Davis Elementary by attending. Each lesson will last for 20
minutes, and each lesson will be offered three times. Here is what we have
planned:
A House Full of Math-Kindergarten
Come discover the hidden Math secrets lurking all around your home. You will learn ways to help your
child explore math using household objects and literature in every day activities.
First grade will have 3 rooms set up. Our focus will be math facts. Mrs. Mayes and Mrs.
Peterson will be doing make and take math games in room 1. Mrs. Morton will have a
game room set up for playing math games. These games will mostly come from core
academy and possibly give you ideas of how to practice at home. Mrs. Anderson will
have an internet sight running in her room and give parents lists of math sights for home
practice, both games and sights that make worksheets. All of the teachers will be here
to answer any questions you may have about first grade math. We will also hand out of
sheet with the overview of math for the year.
2nd grade-Come get some ideas for making math homework fun and engaging with
games to help with the practice of addition and subtraction.

Dinner will consist of corn dogs, chips, cookie, and a drink. Please let us know if you will be attending by filling out the
bottom of this sheet and having your child return it to his or her teacher by tomorrow morning. This will help us arrange
for enough food.

Also, we are in the process of setting up a parent e-mail list where we can send newsletters or other school related
information. Please include your e-mail address if you would like to be included in this list.

Third grade: Let’s learn and memorize the multiplication facts! We will share stories that bring the facts to life
and help kids connect to and remember them. We will make and learn a game you and your child can play at
home to practice facts in a fun way. Get a list of websites for at home learning and practice. Learn the math
terms that will make your child more successful, and get many more ideas for helping your child with math at
home.
FUN 4 U AND YOUR 4TH GRADER
Is your fourth grade child bringing home homework that you don’t understand? If so, please
join us to learn the latest and greatest methods of multiplication and division.
Family Fraction Frenzy!
The 5th grade teachers will be having a fraction activity room where families can try out
fraction games and activities to help students better understand fractions which is a big chunk of the
5th grade math curriculum. There will also be a question and answer session where parents can
come and discuss math questions or concerns with a 5th grade teacher. We hope to see you there!
Thanks,
Davis 5th grade teachers
DANCE SAYS: math learning is fun through dance. Come and learn some fun movement activities to help beginning or
struggling math learners. Get ideas on different ways to help our student learn math wherever they are. Come on, let’s
hop out addition and subtraction.
