Lord’s Ground, the most famous cricket ground in the world, and generally known as the ‘Home of Cricket’ is the home of the Marylebone Cricket Club (the Club). MCC stages over 70 days of International, County and other cricket every year, as well as many other high-profile events within its outstanding facilities.

On major match days, staff working at Lord’s will look after up to 29,000 spectators, whose expectations are understandably high. This job will lead over 600 of the Club’s extremely important casual staff who play an essential part in ensuring that the experiences of all who use Lord’s Ground is of the highest quality.

Reporting to the Ground Superintendent, the Head Steward will manage the Club’s stewarding operation, taking responsibility for the recruitment, training and preparation of stewards for work on both match days and at the other functions that take place throughout the year at Lord’s. In addition, this role will ensure high standards in the areas of customer service, safety and security through effective leadership and the training of stewards.

As well as establishing strong internal communication links, the Head Steward will be expected to represent the Club at meetings with, for example, the local Licensing Authority, Metropolitan Police, Medical Services and England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB), the governing body for cricket in the United Kingdom.

Required skills and experience

This is a superb opportunity for someone to take on the role of managing the in-house stewarding operation. The ideal candidate will have had experience of managing and recruiting high volumes of staff in an environment similar to Lord’s.

Proven communication and presentation skills and the ability to build strong relationships both internally and externally will be essential to achieving success in this role. Along with proven high-quality customer

-service skills, this role brings with it the need to understand the strong safety and security culture of the

Club and support compliance with the Safety Certificate for the Ground.

Flexibility is essential in this role as on many cricket match days, especially during Tests and One-Day

Internationals, you could be expected to work extended hours, and at weekends and during the evenings.
