Chemistry 1A Extra Credit Assignment Using your web browser, go to TedTalks, http://www.ted.com/talks On the left hand side of page, click on Science under “Show talks related to……..” Chose any lecture in the science category. I have viewed most of the lectures and found the content to be acceptable. If you come across a lecture with questionable content, do not watch it or hand in a review on it. You will not be given credit. The lecture must be at least 11 minutes in length. You may choose 2 or more lectures of shorter length, but the combined length must be at least 11 minutes. ALL EXTRA CREDIT MUST BE SUBMITTED TO ME TYPED. THE DOCUMENT SHOULD BE TYPED AND DOUBLE SPACED USING 12 POINT FONT. For each lecture, hand in the following: Your Name List the presenter, topic title, topic length and date posted of the lecture Write a summary of the lecture. The summary must be between 350 and 500 words long and must be typed Write a personal reflection on the lecture following all of the guidelines below: 1. Identify one important concept, research finding, theory or idea that you learned from this lecture 2. Why do you believe that this concept, research finding, theory or idea is important? 3. Apply what you have learned from this lecture to some aspect of your life. 4. What questions has the lecture raised for you? What are you still wondering about? (the answer "nothing" is prohibited) The reflection must be between 250 and 300 words long and must be typed. Each extra credit assignment is worth up to 14 points on your overall test grade. Two extra credit assignments can be handed in each quarter. See due dates below. Extra credit assignments cannot raise your grade to above a 100 average for the quarter Extra credit points cannot be carried over from one quarter to another The Extra Credit Rubric will be used to grade all extra credit assignments. My grading of each assignment will follow the rubric and is not open to discussion or negotiation. Any indication of plagiarism or copying from another student will result in a zero for all students involved. I reserve the right to modify the extra credit assignment or rubric at any time.
