The SPAG test combines the scores from a
punctuation and grammar test with a
separate spelling test to give one overall
level.
Grammar and Punctuation test is out of 50.
Spelling test is out of 20.
Total mark out of 70.




Each year delivers one lesson a week
dedicated to SPaG.
What is taught in this lesson is then followed
up on in literacy lessons.
Each child is also set homework on the topic
covered in class.
Spelling tasks and spelling lists are given
each week to learn and complete





Spelling strategies.
Check your child’s homework –
understanding of the word.
When reading, look and point out grammar
and discuss how it has been used.
Use appropriate vocabulary with your children
– eg nouns, verbs, adverbs, adjectives,
pronouns, prepositions, phrases, clauses,
connectives, inverted commas……
