NEW Leadership™ New York (NLNY) is a fully funded, intensive, one-week residential program to educate TM New college women about the political and teach them become Institute effective leaders. NLNY is designed to NEWprocess Leadership YorktoSummer provide the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for effective political engagement and community organizing. In partnership with Rutgers Center for American Women and Politics (CAWP), NLNY, the only National Education for Women (NEW) LeadershipTM program in New York State, is administered by the Center for Women in Government & Civil Society (CWGCS), Rockefeller College of Public Affairs & Policy, University at Albany, State University of New York. Graduates join the national NEW Leaders Network. Program Participants will take part in training sessions, experiential workshops and fieldtrips to help them explore and develop their own leadership capacity. Students will receive an introduction to the women's rights movement, politics and policymaking, campaign and community organizing, coalition building in diverse and global communities, and advocacy skills. Networking and mentoring opportunities and special events will take place throughout the week. Participants will receive a Certificate of Achievement upon successful completion of the program and are encouraged to implement a project back on their home campus or community for which they can receive a mini-grant. Eligibility NLNY is open to: All undergraduate students (or recent graduates) enrolled in any New York State college or university and All New York State residents who are enrolled as undergraduates in out-of-state schools. All applicants should have a demonstrated interest and experience in developing leadership skills. Applicants are expected to have a GPA of at least 3.0. Under certain circumstances, applicants with GPA below 3.0 will be considered; however the applicant must provide a strong justification for why they should be considered.
