April 1 April 15 Early Dismissal 2:00 Early Dismissal 2:00 Science: We have completed our unit on Physical Science this week. We learned about Newton’s three Laws of Motion, and created a Keynote flier to demonstrate our knowledge. Then we worked in groups to identify all of the simple machines used in 5 different Rube Goldberg machines. We utilized a website called VideoANT to insert our notes and to play them back for the class. Stay tuned as we complete the year with a look at Life Science This Week in the Classroom Math: This week we worked hard on adding and subtraction fractions with like and unlike denominators. They also worked with adding mixed fractions with renaming and subtracting mixed fractions with regrouping. Next week will be our last week with fractions and the final test is scheduled for the following week. Check Schoology for the date. Reading: This week we continued reading My Brother Sam is Dead. We discussed the importance of asking factual (thin/skinny) and inferential (thick/fat) questions before, during and after we read. We also went over the project for My Brother Sam is Dead. Details can be found in your child’s novel section of his/her binder or on my class website. Today, students received a new Reading Log and set of vocabulary words. Next week our reading comprehension skills will be PERSPECTIVE, POINT OF VIEW & MAKING PREDICTIONS. Language Arts: Next week’s lesson in Grammar Workshop is another lesson on irregular verbs. There are two more lessons in Unit 3 and then the final test. Social Studies: Students began learning about Writing: Students continue their work with poetry. We will discuss the topic-What does a Poet Do? They will learn the difference between Prose and a Poem by reading examples of both. They will then the Constitution using their Kids Discover app. Section 1, The Supreme Law of the Land covers how our founding fathers decided against the Articles of Confederation and created the Constitution. Section 2, The Constitutional Convention, covers what a difficult process it was to create and ratify the Constitution for the early Americans. Students need to memorize the Preamble and recite it to me. The date for this will be posted on Schoology
