NATIVITY PREPARATORY SCHOOL Position: 4th Grade Program Developer Nativity Preparatory School is thrilled to announce that it will expand its academic program to include a 4th grade at the start of the 2013-2014 school year. A 4th grade will allow Nativity Prep to make an even greater difference in the lives of its students by intervening at this critical stage of development. Working with students one year earlier will lead to greater gains in our effort to break the cycle of poverty through education. Job Description: The 4th Grade Program Developer will cultivate the Nativity mission and school culture in the new fourth grade program. He or she will also have the opportunity to apply for the lead 4th grade teaching position. This person will develop a rigorous, interdisciplinary curriculum designed for small classes of boys. He or she will also assist in the design of the new 4th grade classroom space, making it conducive to 21st century learning. This person will collaborate with Admissions in recruitment of the 4th grade class. The Program Developer will report directly to the Principal. Responsibilities: 1. Curriculum – Responsible for the design of a 4th grade curriculum at Nativity Preparatory School. Consider the diversity of Nativity’s student body in decision-making about curriculum. Align the program to dovetail with grade 5 and the rest of the academic program. Research materials, approaches to instruction, assessments, and professional development which are suitable for the development of a 4th grade program. Create curriculum calendars for subject areas to use as the basis for scope and sequence. Design curriculum using national standards such as the Common Core. Incorporate current instructional technologies in subject areas of the 4th grade curriculum. 2. Classroom -- Develop the physical environment in the 4th grade room using appropriate materials to enhance the learning environment. Considerations include the following o Classroom space that is grade-appropriate and culturally relevant o Computer hardware, software, and telecommunications infrastructure 3. Admissions and Recruitment -- Collaborate with the Admissions Director in the recruitment of 4th graders to the new program. Serve on admissions committee. Develop criteria for admission to the 4th grade at Nativity. Select assessments to determine ability Assist in the placement of 15 boys in the Nativity class of 2018 Draw upon knowledge of ELL and SPED along with the Nativity admissions profile to inform recruitment decisions. Develop communications with parents. Qualifications: BA required/MA preferred Grade level experience/urban teaching experience preferred Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively Ability to develop program that is mission-focused and promotes the education of the whole person.
