$1,000 up for grabs in IRF's 'Freshwater Focus' Photo
Competition!
International RiverFoundation is now running a major photo contest in support of World Rivers Day
2013.
This year, the contest has been opened up to an international audience, with $AUD1,000 to be
awarded to the overall winner. Other prizes include two nights at the Jacobs Creek Visitor's
Centre in the Barossa Valley, to be awarded to one lucky Australian winner, and a mystery prize
pack for the photo with the highest number of public votes.
All Australian entrants will also receive a $20 Simone Perele voucher.
To enter, all you need to do is submit a photo of a river, lake, wetland or estuary to the Freshwater
Focus web page. There is a small entry fee of $10 per photo - this donation will help the IRF
continue their work in promoting the sustainable restoration and management of river basins around
the world.
In 2012, the IRF World Rivers Day photo contest received hundreds of entries, with Solveig Larsen
taking out the win with her enchanting photo of the Never Never River. Given the popularity of last
year's contest, the fact that 2013 is the UN International Year of Water Cooperation, and in the true
spirit of World Rivers Day, IRF made the decision to open it up to an international audience this
year.
World Rivers Day is held annually on the last Sunday of September, with millions of people in over
60 countries participating in the events. World Rivers Day is a celebration of the world's waterways.
It highlights the many values of rivers and strives to increase public awareness and encourages the
improved stewardship of rivers around the world.
