The Great Fracking Indaba Pandora Schep Mtini the Otter is very worried! “ Don’t be a litter bug” by Yushav Lukhna of Allandale Primary Grade 3 Age 9 (2013) He has something important to tell all the otters in Kwazulu-Natal. His beautiful rivers are in danger! The President has said yes to Fracking! The animals are not happy! What is fracking? It is about mining for shale gas! How do they do that?! They blast water + sand + chemicals into a well deep under the ground. When it comes back out, flow-back water can get into the rivers and ground water! There is very little water in SA and city people often waste it by not fixing leaks People throw rubbish down and forget that it is important to take care of rivers. People forget about keeping the Earth safe for future generations! People forget about keeping rivers clean and healthy too! The otters decide to send a team to give the President Mtini’s High Five! We need to tell the children too! Said Mo Everyone needs to work together! Mtini and Mo went home to prepare for the journey to see the President I will give you courage, said Leopard! Listen for the truth, said Python! Don’t be fooled by ‘sweet-talk’, said Tufty the little grey duiker! Choose the right path, said Kudu! Make sure you can see clearly, said Mo! Be confident, brave and bold and don’t fall into a trap, said Eli the Eland! I will come with you, said Mo! Mtini, Mo and the team of otters set off to give the President his High Five!
