PART –A

The following plan of action was chalked out by IQAC for the session

2008-09

1.

Tutorials to be conducted for academically weak students.

2.

To offer more co-curricular activities in support of academic programmes.

3.

Students to be motivated to write articles in different subjects for the magazine/newsletter.

4.

Encouraging activities for the students to participate in various cultural programmes.

5.

To inculcate civic responsibilities among the students through

NSS/NCC.

PART- B

1.

Activities reflecting the goals and objectives of the college. i. Workshop on Ethical Hacking was organized on 17 th

May, 2008 in collaboration with IETE Jammu Centre. Resource Persons on this occasion were Sh. Anupam Gupta, General Manager, BSNL, Prof. S.K.

Puri, Chairman IETE Jammu Centre, Prof. Parveen Lehana, Secretary,

IETE Jammu Centre, and Mr. Anoop Girdhar, Sedulity Group, New

Delhi. ii. A symposium in connection with the celebration of 1st National

Education Day on 11th November, 2008, was held at Gandhi Nagar, in which students from the College also participated. The topic for the symposium was "Maulana Azad's Crusade for Education". iii. Students from the G.G.M. Science College participated in World

Heritage Week Celebration conducted by the Department of Archives,

Archaeology & Museums, Government of Jammu and Kashmir from

19th to 25th November, 2008. Under this activity, the students were taken for a guided tour of Dogra Art Museum, Mubarak Mandi. This opportunity was meant to create and stimulate awareness and appreciation among the students for the preservation of the rich cultural heritage which they have inherited as inhabitants of this state. iv. A Campus selection Program was organized by ITC Limited on 28th

November, 2008 for the position of "Sales Trainee" for a period of one year for the students who have successfully completed their graduation in any discipline. On successful completion of the training programme, the candidate would be confirmed as an area Executive and would join the frontline Sales Force of ITD.

v. Six Weeks training programme in Entrepreneurship Development

Programmes (EDPs) for Science and Technology personnel was organized in December, 2008 by the J&K Industrial and Technical

Consultancy Organization Ltd. in collaboration with District Industries

Centers (DICs). The programme aimed at providing necessary guidance and assistance to the selected students to seek self-employment by way of setting up of their own Industrial/Servicing ventures. The programmes were sponsored by the Department of Science and

Technology, Government of India and Entrepreneurship Development

Institute, Ahmadabad. vi. A seminar on topic "TCY IIM's Way Seminar" was organized by Top

Careers & you in the College Campus on 12th December 2008 in the

Conference hall. The programme aimed at benefiting the students who are interested to pursue management as a career.

vii. A Quiz Competition was organized by the Department of Students

Welfare, University of Jammu on 22nd December, 2008 in which G.G.M

Science College was selected amongst the final teams. viii. A two day workshop on 8 th

and 9 th

March 2009 was organized on Higher

Education at GGM Science College which was attended by academicians comprising of eminent University and College Teachers and Principals of various Degree Colleges. The observations/recommendations on physical infrastructure, on academic inputs, administrative aspects & vision for Higher Education were communicated to the Higher Education Department.

3. Innovations in Curricular Design and Transaction.

The College is affiliated to University of Jammu, and adopts the programmes and curricula approved by the University. The College faculty has very limited access to the framing and designing the course/programmes except that some suggestions are given at the time of meeting of Board of Studies. These meetings are organized by the

University from time to time.

At the College Level to make teaching-learning more effective, seminars,

Quiz, Guest Lectures are organized and use of multimedia has also been encouraged.

Examination reforms implemented . a.

After completion of the syllabi, students were exposed to sufficient examination exercise. Model papers were given to students based on the established pattern of University exams and students were given practice on numerical problems in the tutorials. b.

External examination is conducted by University of Jammu,

Jammu. However, internal assessment is conducted by the College and scripts are shown to the student after evaluation so that they know where they have to improve.

Provision was made to conduct retest for students based on the established pattern of the university.

Community services (NSS & NCC)

The college through its NSS & NCC units has been in the forefront in community service by organizing blood donation camps, environment awareness programme, cleanliness drives and security related awareness programmes.

The college NCC unit collected an amount of Rs. 4000/- and detonated it to Zila Saink Welfare Board for help to war widows.

Besides organizing various workshops and seminars highlighting the environmental concern and role of youth in nation building. The NSS Unit offered coaching to orphans at Bal Niketan, Amphalla and donated study material to the students there.

The college being a Govt. Institution functioning under Department of

Higher Education, J& K Govt. and all recruitments are done by J&K

Public Service Commission.

Students feedback is generally taken at the end of the session for all the courses a thorough analysis of the feedback is carried out and remedial measure are initiated were ever necessary in the next session with in the means and powers available with the institutions .

Department, of the college.

32. Health Services.

To ensure the availability of basic medical facilities for the students, a medical dispensary is functioning under the supervision of an experienced pharmacist. This dispensary maintains necessary stock of medicines and other related items for first aid.

33. Performance in Sport Activities .

College students participated in 20 sports tournaments at various levels.

150 students participated in Inter College Tournaments in different games organized by the University of Jammu, Jammu.

Four students of the college represented University of Jammu, Jammu at

National Level.

Department of Physical Education organized a Junior Collegiate Football

Tournament in the College.

Inter House tournaments of G.G.M Science college Hostel were organized in football, table tennis and cricket. Almost 200 boarders participated in these events.

Achievements in Sports activities

Sahil Sharma, of B.Sc. Part I was selected to attend MRF Pace

Foundation Camp for V-19 Cricket Team at Chennai.

The college cricket team was the Champions Trophy in the Inter collegiate Cricket tournament organized by University of Jammu during the session 2008-09

The champions trophy in the inter collegiate chess tournament organized by University of Jammu during the session 2008-09 was won by the

College.

34. Incentives to outstanding Sportspersons .

The students are provided necessary facilities like equipments, kits uniform, traveling allowance and refreshment during training as well as during conduct of tournaments. Deserving high achievers are considered for the award of college colours every year.

Prize in Skit.

Sarang Vaid participated in Kolkata National Youth Festival w.e.f 19-

01-09 to 23-01-09 and bagged 1 st prize in skit competition.

Arjun Manhas got 1 st prize in both cartooning and poster making competition under Display Your Talent Activity organized by the

University of Jammu.

Following students were adjudged as best actors in Display your

Talent Activity organized by the University of Jammu for their exquisite performance :- Sarang Vaid (1 st

).

University of Jammu.

36. Activities of the Guidance and Counseling unit :

Students are provided guidance in career Counseling Cell which is active in the institution and provides counseling to the students for

MCA, MBA Courses and placement in the three wings of the army.
