Job purpose
The main responsibilities of the Community Co-ordinator will be:




Oversee the University/Students’ Union Community Strategy, including engaging
with all main partners within the University and Students’ Union community to
develop a sense of community for students living both on campus and off
campus. The main partners will include Accommodation & Hospitality, ICIA,
DSDR and Estates.
Maintain and develop the Hall Representative system, including the election,
training & support of Hall Representatives
Working with University partners, as above, to co-ordinate and develop a range
of events within the Hall League, and developing the annual Hall Awards.
Ensuring that the needs of all key groups of students are considered within the
Community strategy, particularly focusing on the diverse student population

Student staff and Hall Rep leaders as appropriate.
Special conditions
Will be required to work occasional evenings and weekends for training or events, which
can be reclaimed as TOIL.

Review and develop the Community Strategy including working with key partners in
the University (ICIA, Estates, Accommodation & Hospitality, DSDR) and in the SU.
Ensure that the targets in the Community Strategy include the key performance
indicators from the relevant sections of the Education Strategy.
Review and develop the Hall Reps system, including elections, and support &
training for Hall Reps in their roles and as student leaders. Ensure the system is
sustainable and meets the needs of all groups of students.
Maintain the Service Level Agreement, agreed between the SU, Accommodation &
Hospitality and Student Services.

Publicise the Hall Rep system and activities in partnership with the University
Accommodation service and other key partners.

Research and develop ways of working with students who live at home, to ensure
that they feel part of the Student Community, including working with the SCP
Community Liaison Co-ordinator and other stakeholders to achieve this aim.

Review and further develop a range of events to enhance a sense of tradition in the
student population. Work with SU partners such as SU Sports to establish annual
sports events, SU volunteering to develop partnerships around annual fundraising
activities etc. Work in partnership with University departments to ensure they
contribute to the range of events (ICIA, Accommodation and Hospitality, Estates and
DSDR).
These events will contribute to the Halls League and the annual Community Awards
event.
7. Evaluate and monitor the Hall Reps system, measuring effectiveness and inclusivity,
using participation statistics and research methods such as focus groups. Work with
SU staff such as the International Co-ordinator & Postgraduate Co-ordinator to
develop inclusive events.

Develop the representation aspect of the Hall Reps role, including working with the
Student Officer team and SU Representation staff on the aspects of training and
support. Hold a minimum of four Hall Forums per year, where reps will feedback the
views of students in Halls.

Present reports on all aspects of the Community Coordinator work to all
stakeholders, including the Extra Curriculum Group and all other key stakeholder
meetings.
10 Maintain the Halls website and social media to ensure appropriate sharing of
information with students in halls, including key first year messages as part of the
University’s Education Strategy.
11 Contribute to the Student Communication Strategy, (key stakeholders, B&NES, Bath
Spa University and University of Bath, by working with the SCP Co-ordinator on
complaints and other activities, such as Moving out Campaign, regarding students
living off campus.
You will from time to time be required to undertake other duties of a similar nature as
reasonably required by your line manager. You are required to follow all University
policies and procedures at all times and take account of University guidance
