Job purpose
This generalist role provides HR advice, support, development and
facilitation to both managers and staff within Accommodation & Hospitality
(A&H) working to a designated HR Business Partner. The postholder will
facilitate the effective management of employee relations issues within the
services and work closely with their Business Partner to develop the people
management skills of all those with staff responsibilities within A&H,
embedding high quality HR practice across the service.
The postholder will work closely with the management team of
Accommodation & Hospitality, understanding the business of the
designated departments and providing the value-adding HR interventions to
enable them to achieve their objectives.
The postholder will provide high quality employee relations advice,
challenge, coaching and support to influence improvements to the quality,
customer-focus, efficiency, effectiveness and competitiveness of services.
To contribute to the development of Corporate HR policy and practice.
Main duties and responsibilities
1
To work under the direction of the HR Business partner with A&H
management teams to understand their key drivers and objectives
and provide value adding HR interventions to support them in
achieving those objectives in compliance with University policy
and employment legislation.

To provide a consistent, professional HR service across A&H,
underpinned by compliance with University policy and employment
legislation and the principles of HR good practice.

To provide advice and support to managers on a wide range of
employee relations issues including discipline, performance,
grievance and absence issues to enable effective people
management of all staff in line with University policy and
employment legislation.

To contribute to the development of managerial and leadership
capability within A&H. Working with the HR Business Partner, to
devise, lead and take forward a range of interventions to increase
the people management skills of the managers and leaders and
embed high quality and consistent HR practice across A&H that
will increase staff performance, efficiency and effectiveness.

To advise and support managers in developing effective team
structures and job roles that deliver required services in the most
effective and efficient manner and the recruitment, selection and
appointment of staff with the required competencies to these
posts.

To advise and support managers in the effective management of
change, working with trade union representatives and staff to
deliver required changes.

To line manage the Recruitment and Staff Engagement Coordinator (Accommodation & Hospitality) ensuring that they
maintain their continuous professional development and are
developed to maximise their motivation and performance in their
role. To contribute to professional development within the
Department of Human Resources and Accommodation &
Hospitality.

This job description is intended to provide a broad outline of the
main responsibilities only. The post-holder is required to be
flexible in developing their role in agreement with their designated
manager. In addition they may be required by their manager to
carry out any other duty commensurate with their grading and
expertise.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS
JOB TITLE:

SALARY:
£31,342 to £37,394 per annum
HOURS:
36.5 hours per week
ANNUAL LEAVE:
26 days per annual leave year, plus 5 discretionary
days and bank holidays
NOTICE PERIOD:
3 months

Fixed Term, 12 month maternity cover

Qualifications and training
Degree or equivalent level qualification and / or
validated experience.

CIPD Postgraduate Diploma / Grad CIPD status
and evidence of continuing professional
development including specialised training in
related aspects of HR Management - Registered
with CIPD as Grad CIPD or higher.

Knowledge and experience
Strong knowledge of employment law and HR
best practice and its practical application.

Knowledge of Higher Education environment and
current issues in Higher Education.
Successful track record of achieving results in HR
roles in diverse medium to large organisation(s),
with Experience and strong track record of
effective delivery of employee relations issues.

Experience of delivering results in a commercial /
business orientated environment (highly
desirable) and / or a Higher Education
environment (desirable).
Experience of working effectively with trade union
/ staff representatives.

Experience of policy development and
