Element Builder

Online Lab

Introduction:

This simulation helps you to help you fully understand the basic structure of an element when it relates to the relationships between protons, neutrons and electrons.

Read the following directions to access the page and carefully read the procedure to complete the entire lab. a.

Access Mr. Tackmann’s website b.

Under “Physical Science” click on the Simulations link c.

Open the first simulation called “ Element Builder ” d.

Click the link on the left called “ I'm a student , and I have a class code , Enroll in a Class ” e.

Our Class code is “ YYTBDXVHER

” f.

Click on the link “

I need to create an ExploreLearning account, Register Now to Enroll

” and create an account. g.

Click “Launch Gizmo” and start the lab.

Directions:

1)

Click the boxes on the right side of the gizmo labeled: “Show Element Name” , “ Show Element Symbol” and

“Element Notation”

2) Play around with the gizmo a bit. Add in more and atomic particles such as protons, neutrons and electrons. Notice how it changes the picture and the structure of the atom.

3) Set the atom to have 1 Proton, 0 Neutrons and 0 Electrons to start the Lab
