Arts Forum
Meeting Tuesday 7th October 2014
1. Welcome. Twelve people attended and were welcomed by Mike
Nicholls. Apologies were received from Dee Fraser, Melanie
Garrett, Peter Warren, Pamela Howard and Meryl Penning
2. 100 Club Draw. The winners were Thea Foote, Sandra Peters and
Pauline Watson. Brian Hall invites people to join the 100 Club – it
is now only £6 for the remaining two draws, providing people agree
to sign up again for next year. It was suggested that more publicity
should be given to the 100 Club if we want to keep it going.
3. News. Arts Dream reported a successful summer with three major
projects being enjoyed by residents and visitors alike. The End of
the Journey was seen by 500 people, with a further 80 on the
waiting list. 250 people visited the Heritage Lottery Exhibition,
with 10 people involved in setting it up. The Art Exhibition was a
great success. Workshops had been attended and representatives
form the various funding bodies had also made their way to Selsey.
Arts Dream now had money in the bank to consider future projects.
SACOS will be producing their Christmas extravaganza in the
Town Hall on the 5/6 December and the panto Ali Bab and the
Forty Thieves 28-29 December, same venue. Rehearsals for South
Pacific (Easter production) are taking place Mon and Thurs
evenings – men still needed!
Christmas Lights will be lit up on November 29th 4.30 – 7.30.
Great fun for all.
A Murder Mystery will be part of next year’s Selsey Festival contact Thea Foote for info. (Selsey Festival will take place
throughout August next year).
The Choir will continue for the second half of the present term (a
further 7 weeks). More singers welcome, especially in the
tenor/bass department!
4. Project Ideas. Dee Fraser and Melanie Garrett (endorsed by
Angela Benwell) would like to see day/evening classes in Selsey on
an assortment of subjects eg glasswork, pottery, woodwork etc
This will be discussed at next Arts Dream committee meeting (14 th
October). Please send your ideas to any of the committee (above)
Selsey Camera Club. Their Chairman agreed that there might be
interest in recording Selsey as it is today (before developers, high
tides and general progress through the 21st century change
everything). Our High Street for example is different from most
towns! Let Tony Storey know if you have any thoughts.
5. Public Art. Mike Nicholls explained that about £150,000 might be
available (through section 106) if the proposed ‘Asda’ Development
receives planning permission, specifically for public art. Chris
Butler read out a statement regarding the aims and benefits of
public art (attached). Several projects have been suggested and
these will be available for everyone to see in the Town Hall on
Monday 20th October from 10-12am and 6-8pm. Selsey folk are
encouraged to come and express their ideas and visions for the
future.
6. Date of next Forum Tuesday 20th January 2015 at 7.45pm in the
Town Hall
