For those who weren’t at the meeting you missed a great night of discussion and action. Here is what we
discussed.
CHARITY
ST. PETER’S PICNIC: ***We need as many volunteers as possible for the St. Peter’s picnic on Saturday, 27
June.*** Not only is the picnic a big event but it is also the de facto going away party for our great priests
Father Byrne and Father Riffle. It’s going to be big. Arrival for setup will be 2:30~3:00 pm. Mass will be
broadcasted downstairs so you can still worship God while taking a break from cooking and setting up. I will be
sending out a signup sheet online tomorrow. Please consider helping out.
SERVICE AND SOCIAL EVENT: On Wednesday, 8 July at 4pm we will meet at the Hickey Center (924 G
Street NW, near the Verizon Center) to prepare food as part of St. Maria’s Meals
(https://www.catholiccharitiesdc.org/volunteer/st-marias-meals). We will prepare food for roughly 300 people
for about two hours. Then we will find a place to partake in food and refreshment. Everyone is welcome to the
social event even if you cannot make the service opportunity. Please contact me if you are interested in

COFFEE CART FOR VETERANS: If you have a free weekday please consider helping out at the Veterans
Administration. One opportunity is to manage the coffee cart in order to serve veterans waiting in line for
service. O’Boyle member Brother Peter Gabauer PSD (Past State Deputy) is the main point of contact if you
want to volunteer. His e-mail address is jdpag@aol.com.
NATSMASS: Like cooking hot dogs, reading at mass, presenting gifts at mass? Please consider joining me in
cooking out Sunday, 21 June starting at 11 at St. Vincent de Paul. Natsmass brings in baseball fans to the
parish right by the stadium. It’s also a great fundraiser!
UNITY
SECOND DEGREE TEAM VOLUNTEERS WANTED: Please consider helping out the second degree team if
you are a second, third, or fourth degree knight. Brother Hank Lutz manages the team and is willing to answer

DISCUSSION: We discussed the article Families Evangelizing Families
(http://www.kofc.org/un/en/columbia/detail/2015-06-lori-chaplain.html). Great points were made by all. To sum
it up we have to learn not to be embarrassed by making the sign of the cross in public, praying the rosary
openly, or explaining why we believe what we believe. We should not be Pharisees who seek praise for
ourselves, just live out your Catholicness so we can please God and be missionaries to others.
DC STATE KNIGHTS ARE GOING TO A BASEBALL GAME. The State Council invites our brother Knights
and their family to a year end family event. The DC Knights will be attending the Nationals vs. Atlanta Braves
game on Tuesday June 23, 2015 at 7:00 pm. Tickets are $30.00 per person for left field mezzanine level.
Before the game we will have a cook out at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church a few blocks from the baseball
field. Hot dogs, hamburgers, chips and drinks will be served. If you would like to participate please email State
Advocate Brandon Brown (Brandon.J.Brown@gmail.com) with the number of tickets that will be needed. All
monies will be due to Brother Brown by Friday June 19, 2015. (Please contact me

WELCOME BACK FROM LOURDES! Brothers Hank Lutz, Jerry Driscoll, and Charles Gallina PSD have
returned from serving as part of the Warriors to Lourdes pilgrimage which brings wounded warriors to Lourdes
for physical and spiritual healing (http://www.warriorstolourdes.com/en/index.html). Brother Hank is more than
willing to discuss his experience when you reach out to him about serving with the second degree team.
SUPREME CONVENTION: The Knights of Columbus annual Supreme Convention is in Philadelphia this
year August 4-6. For more information and registration see these two (yes two)

PLEASE PRAY FOR: Father Byrne and Father Riffle as they go out and proclaim the gospel in new
areas. The soul of Bill McCarthy, past State Deputy of Virginia and a friend of DC Knights. The soul of
Dieudonne Ndouga, a great Knight and friend to all, and for his family. All unemployed knights that their God
given skills may be allowed to be applied properly. Orthodoxy, orthopraxy, and love. The Synod of the
Family. The unborn. Our seminarians Christian and Nate. All families. All those in harms way both home and
abroad. The poor. Forgiveness of all our sins. And all the souls in purgatory that they may be in heaven as
quickly and painlessly as possible.
