Primary Job Purpose To work in the team providing public access to the Museum’s library and archives collections (comprising: manuscripts, documents, photographs, film and audio). To work as part of the team raising standards of documentation, collections management and conservation. To deliver public access to these collections on-site, on-line and through partnerships. To share expertise and communicate with different audiences the interest and excitement in the Museum's library and archive collections. Decision making authority and freedom to act Maintains and/or develops knowledge of particular collections/types of material/subject areas as allocated by the Archives Collections Team Manager. Leads in carrying out particular core functions for the Archives Collections Team e.g. re-direction of enquiries to wider Collections Management Team, web updates, social media posts, etc. Leads on targeted collections projects as required. Makes proposals for disposal, acquisition and transfer. Contribute to the delivery of the Corporate Plan. Information systems Shares and contributes knowledge at team meetings. Accession Registers Object Files. Collections Management System(s). Digital Asset Management System (to be implemented). People management Ability to work within and effectively contribute to a variety of teams. To coordinate the appropriate direction of volunteer effort to these collections. Communication and relationships Close liaison with Collections Team. Contribute to collections working which tackle joint issues/ processes e.g. storage, emergency planning, accessions, digitisation, and on-line access. Join exhibition teams as required. Join cross-directorate project teams as required. Contributes to community engagement, formal and informal learning as required. Liaise externally with departments of the Navy, other museum networks and professionals, other organisations. Liaise with donors / lenders / on-site enquirers. Liaise with media and publishers. Ability to positively represent the Museum to external organisations. Knowledge, Skills and Experience Subject Mandatory Knowledge A broad understanding of naval history and library and archive collections - with evidence of ability to develop a more specialist knowledge of either a specific part of the collections and or aspect of Royal Navy heritage. Understanding of the contemporary Royal Navy and Royal Marines. Experience Experience of working with archive and library collections. Experience of working with volunteers and directing them to appropriate tasks. Ability to contribute to public events and programmes. Ability to offer expertise and advice.
