PROMOTING AND IMPLEMENTING THE FOUR-WAY TEST: High Schools Pre-Promotion: November Begin hanging Four-Way Test posters in the classrooms to further build awareness of the program and its core messages. Organizational Steps: December Stay in touch with your appointed Rotarian to make sure you are prepared with all of your collateral materials. Starting the Contest: Monday, January 9, 2012 Send a letter (see insert for example letter) to all high school speech class students and their parents with: - Reasons the school is using the Four-Way Test - Specifics about the speech contest and its rules and regulations - Details about winners and prizes - Deadlines Begin the contest with consistent reminders through morning announcements, in-class reminders and posters. Speech specifications: - Must be between four and seven minutes long - Must be original speech that gives credit to all outside sources or quotes used - Must address all four elements of the Four-Way Test Contact your appointed Rotarian if you have any questions about rules. Judging Speeches: February, 2011 Prior to the deadline, please be sure to collect the following information: - Student Name - Teacher’s Name - Address - Phone Number & Email Address Members of the Rotary Club will schedule a date for presentation of speeches. Naming Winners: Monday, March 5, 2012 Parents of the winners will be notified in advance. Winners will be notified via morning announcements. Prizes Awarded: April 26, 2012 at Dulaney High School (subject to change) For each participating school: Phase One - 1st place: $100 - 2nd place: $75 - 3rd place: $50 Overall winners: Phase Two - Grand Prize: $1,000 - Consolation Prize: $250 All Phase Two participants will present their speech at the awards banquet on April 26 th. The Phase Two Winner must be able to participate in the Rotary District 7620 Four-Way Test Speech Contest Semi-Finals on March 17, 2012 and Finals on March 31, 2012.
