Caesars Foundation Grant Application Overview
Organization: Clean the World Foundation, Inc.

Organization Background Information & Demographics
Brief description of the organization’s history, goals and accomplishments to-date:
Every day across the globe, 6,000 children die to hygiene-related illnesses. Studies show that
simply hand washing with soap can reduce those deaths up to 50%. Soap Saves Lives!
Clean the World is a 501(c)3, social enterprise with a two-part mission: collect and recycle soap
products discarded by the hospitality industry; and distribute the new soaps to prevent millions
of childhood deaths caused by hygiene-related diseases. Since our launch in 2009, we recycled
and distributed 20 million soap bars in 96 countries worldwide; distributed 300,000 hygiene
kits; diverted 2,500 tons of soap waste from landfills; and enrolled 2,500 hospitality partners in
recycling programs nationwide.
Our partnership with Caesars Entertainment began in 2010, with presentation of $100,000 from
The Harrah’s Foundation. The Caesars Foundation continued its investment in 2011-2013 with a
3-year, $150K/year commitment. Caesars was instrumental in establishing a hospitality
recycling program in Las Vegas, joining as our first partner, and played a huge role in providing
the industry leadership to bring us to scale, from a collection and distribution service to the
fully operational Las Vegas Recycling Operation Center (LV ROC) branded with Caesars’ banner,
now serving the entire west coast of the United States. Since introducing the program, 198 tons
of waste (soap and plastic) was collected from 31 Caesars properties, and 1.4 million new soap
bars and 273,370 bottled amenities were distributed. Over the next few years, we anticipate
diverting 200 tons of waste, and distributing 2 million new soap bars and 300,000 bottled
amenities throughout the world!
Our recycling program fits perfectly with Caesars legacy of giving, as the LV ROC continues to
expand and provide local jobs, save the environment, and ultimately save lives worldwide. We
are strengthening local charities, and boosting morale for Caesars’ employees everywhere,
leading to deep community embracement and support.

Brief description of the project to be funded:
Clean the World is eager to continue our important and successful partnership with the renewal
of $150,000 each year for three years ($450k commitment for 2014-16) from Caesars
Foundation to sustain the operational agreement of the Hospitality Recycling Program with LV
ROC, part of Caesars Entertainment Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability Plan.
We are privileged to partner in Caesars’ commitment to responsible corporate citizenship. In
choosing our Hospitality Recycling Program as a key strategy in achieving conservation and
waste-reduction goals, Caesars sets the pace for how the hospitality industry views its
sustainability practices. The Hospitality Recycling Program is fast becoming a standard feature
of hotel operations nationwide, with guests, meeting planners and property managers
requesting the program daily.
Through operation of the Hospitality Recycling Program at Caesars properties already in place,
and in partnership with Gilchrist & Soames, we will continue providing a planet protecting and
life-saving recycling program for all Caesars properties in North America including new rooms
brought on by expansion or acquisition (capped at 4k new rooms.) Program fees are necessary
to completely operate all facets of the program, including collection, pickup, shipping, recycling,
redistribution, and public awareness.
Our partnership will also allow high engagement in the vitality of Las Vegas through local HERO
activities, annual soap distributions in countries where Caesars operates, hosting the National
Minority Supplier Development Council to build supplier relationships and create jobs, and a
media day at the LV ROC. This essential investment provides long-term support for Clean the
World to continue the recycling program for Caesars properties, and ensure ongoing
opportunities for Caesars to remain directly involved in creating a positive environmental, social
and economic impact in Las Vegas, and the global community at large.
Description of naming opportunities and/or media exposure associated with this request:

Description of volunteer opportunities for Caesars Entertainment employees:
Through investment in our mission to recycle soap and save lives, Caesars has empowered its
staff at every level to create vibrant communities by participating in the collection and
distribution of critical soap to diverse communities all over the world. In 2012, we invited
Jessica Rosman on a soap distribution trip to Honduras, hallmarking the first casino company
involved in our program. In 2013, Jessica connected our Clean the World team with HERO
leadership, and we hired a full time volunteer coordinator who has organized hundreds of
community hours for "Caesars LV HEROS." In January 2014, three Caesars employees were
selected for Dedication to Community Service (Harrah’s Laughlin), Outstanding Housekeeper
(Bally’s Las Vegas) and Service with Passion (Harrah’s Council Bluffs Iowa) and invited to join
Clean the World on a soap distribution trip to the Philippines, the first excursion in Asia, where
they engaged in distributing thousands of hygiene products and helped teach proper hand
washing techniques in schools and student activity centers throughout Manila. We seek to
extend the opportunity to more employees this year and over the next few years, starting with
a distribution trip to the Dominican Republic in November 2014.
These activities present a unique opportunity for employees to see firsthand how Caesars’
efforts can change lives around the world. It also allows Caesars and its employees to
participate in our global mission by interacting with and directly serving diverse communities
around the world, many of which represent the home countries of Caesars Entertainment staff.
The goodwill of the Clean the World and the Caesars Foundation partnership is externally and
internally publicized, both domestically and throughout Asia, to shed light on the plight of
people struggling to overcome hygiene challenges around the world, and highlight our mutual
commitment to the global mission of recycling soap and saving lives.
