Students will use a dice and computer spreadsheet to review probability and
record results then they will work more on Survs.com.
The students working in pairs will be able to create spreadsheets and graphs
based on what their results were for the probability game with 100% similarity.
The learners will be in seventh grade, ages twelve to thirteen, of both boys and
girls.
The class will be in the computer lab for the activity. They will work in groups
of two and three if need be. The teacher will be available to help the students if
they need help with project or spreadsheet or survey.
P.S.1.1: Students should be able to create, compare, and evaluate different
forms of data using different tools like a spreadsheet, graph, pie chart, and
more.
 Computers
 Microsoft Spreadsheet
 Paper
 Pencil
 Dice
 Printer
 Internet
1) First the teacher will talk about probability and how to complete the
activity.
2) For the activity the teacher will pair the students off into groups of two
or three if need be.
3) Once in the computer lab, the groups will pick roles one person will be
a recorder and one a dice roller.
4) The recorder will record what shows up on the dice ever time the roller
rolls the dice. They will roll the dice 50 times.
5) Once they are done rolling they will put the information in the
spreadsheet with all the totals for each number added up.
6) After the whole class is done the teacher will show the class how to
create a graph with their information. Each group will print off and
turn in the papers.
7) Once the papers are turned in each individual will take a survey the
teacher created on survs.com. The survey will test the student’s ability
to determine probability without using dice, coins, or certain items.
8) After they have finished they will turn their completed survey in.
This activity is based on completion of the spreadsheet, graph, and survey. The
teacher will later give a test over probability that the students should pass with
80% accuracy.
