Club Newsletter – 27 October 2015 We are now into our fourth week of club nights. With over 60 swimmers the nights are full of great swims and personal bests. Noodle races, 12.5m, 25m, 50 m and the longer events are making Tuesday nights at St Eddies pool the place to be. A big thanks to Desley for her time recordings whilst Dave was away last week. There are also a number of big swimming events coming up which will see a number of the kids involved and we wish them all the best as they strive to better their times amongst other swimmers from around Brisbane. This weekend we have 10 swimmers representing CYMS St Edmund’s at the Brisbane Senior Metropolitan Championships at Chandler. We wish Elly Burling (6 events), Grace Chandler (2 events), Jordan Harton (4 events), Josh McIntyre (5 events), Trae Norbury (5 events), Max Roche (2 events), Nathaniel Smith (5 events), Britney Summerville (7 events), Tahnee Summerville (2 events), Aiden Tuihalangingie (2 events) all the very best. Of course you can keep up with how your friends are fairing at these meets by jumping into the ‘Meet Mobile’ app. Have a super night tonight!! Remember – there is no swimming next Tuesday night – the night of the Melbourne Cup. This is not because we are that confident about choosing the winner or the trifecta and there might not be anyone here – but because the college has an important event in the Schofield Centre. We will be back on Tuesday 10 November. IMPORTANT:STORM WARNINGS The weather has been amazing of late. With summer approaching, it also means the storm season is here. If there are storms around and are active after 4pm, please refer to the website and our Facebook page to find out whether club night is still on. CLUB WEBSITE www.cymsstedmunds.com.au The CYMS website is where you will find your child’s swimming results from each club night swim. It also has an up-to-date calendar with every detail regarding club nights and competition events in the South East. Remember there are opportunities for your child to represent CYMS at local and state competitions. Save the website as a favourite for easy access. TONIGHT'S PROGRAM and RACE NOMINATIONS Don’t forget to try nominating the kids’ swims on Tuesday nights via the registration form which is up on the facebook page. By clicking on the radio buttons on the form and hitting submit, you have nominated your child’s swim for the following week. The lucky swimmer will win a voucher from Birch, Carroll & Coyle Ipswich, as well as a voucher for a hamburger, drink and a bag of lollies from our canteen. Good Luck in the draw tonight!! Last week’s winner was Xavier Williams– enjoy your feast and movie. WEEKLY RAFFLE Each week we will be running a raffle to help raise money for our club. 50 tickets (numbers) are sold each week at $1 each, with the winner winning $25. So choose your number and let’s hope you’re our fourth winner of the year. Last week’s winner was the ever popular Mr Peter Dann, so congratulations – (Peter’s lucky number was number 6). MARSHALLING Each event will be called out through the night. Please listen out for the stroke and race length. Children are to gather in the marshalling area for each event. We won’t be holding up races if children are out of the swimming pool area playing other games. Children are to remain quiet in the marshalling area so they can hear their names called once, so they know their lane and race. It is also important that swimmers be quiet for the start of each race. STAR PERFORMANCES OF WEEK 3 Each week we will feature the best swims of the night. These are calculated by the percentage improvement against the swimmer’s previous personal best swim. This week we saw a new list of swimmers improving their times. Congratulations to Ryan Prenzler on his massive 25% improvement in his 25m breaststroke time. Nathaniel Smith’s 4% improvement in the 50m butterfly is noteworthy because he already is swimming incredibly fast times, so to beat his best by 1.5 seconds is not easy feat. Jack Rathen’s achievement in the 50m freestyle comes from hard work. A new member of CYMS St Edmund’s squad, he has turned up keen and enthusiastically completed every session to date. Well done to all swimmers.
