We are a multi-disciplinary outpatient psychiatry clinic with locations in Escondido and Oceanside. Trainees will
be assigned to one or the other location. Psychiatry is a large department of Rady Children's Hospital San
Diego. Outpatient Psychiatry provides individual and family psychotherapy, medication services, group therapy,
and case management for children, adolescents and their families under contracted services with San Diego
County Department of Children’s Mental Health. Clients present with a broad variety of DSM axis 1 diagnoses
and frequently present a complex clinical picture.

Internship students will be assigned more complex and complicated cases, more responsibility (particularly in
leadership and education), and more cases.

Attendance at IEP or other meetings related to educational needs of the child. Collaboration with all aspects of
the child’s social and emotional functioning and those who are involved in providing support to these aspects of

Many other opportunities are offered for trainings that include Grand Rounds for Outpatient Psychiatry down at
Children’s Hospital and county trainings.
What training do you offer in general safety procedures?
Orientation covers suicide and crisis intervention/ procedures for hospitalization/ procedures for dealing with
aggression. Building safety procedures (fire drills, alarms, etc.) are also covered per OSHA and JACHO
regulations.
Specific procedures for your agency, e.g. violent patients?
There are county and Agency Manualized Protocols which cover how to avoid risk situations and enlist backup,
how to notify other staff for assistance. On call procedures are covered in orientation as well as procedures for
police notifications. Interns are always in clinic with other experienced staff who are aware of their current
situation.

are sought who have the interest in pursuing a clinical career with children and adolescents.
